The new Dev Answers bring us some quality detail on weapon convergence. Good stuff! But a particular question is still bouncing around in my head.
Do you think weapons should be trying to converge to the point targeted under your reticle (as it seems to in the answers) or would it be more useful if they try and converge at the range of a targeted enemy? The first is more useful if you are trying to fire on the fly without targeting first your enemy the second method allows you to be able to better pinpoint your fire on a particular enemy.

Well, it would seem more useful for your "current" target but what if your firing at a target that you do not have selected?

They have said that you will be able to target another enemy with your arm weapons while firing at the target mech with your torso weapons. Plus with all the strafing and movement in game convergence on target reticule would be best.

I'm going to agree with osito, the easiest way to do it is to have it converged on whatever your reticle is hovering over at the time. If they want to give us a way to manually dial in a range of our perference that'd be awesome (ie. set your convergence range to 50m while waiting behind a wall 5m in front of you so you can ambush that Atlas around the corner) but I don't expect it at launch.

I think the most useful convergence wil be on the object you currently have under you reticle. After all if you've dropped the targeting reticle on something other than a friend, you are probably thinking about shooting it.

Except that the reticle will probably spend a lot of time on the horizon or the terrain behind your target as you pan twards them in which case the weapons will be typically have to track from it farthest/widest convergence to you target. Where as if it automatically converges to whatever you have targeted you'll have a much faster drop on them which could be all the difference, especially in particularly slow mechs.

I didn't get the impression in the video that the circle was changing size even though I could the lasers changing convergence.
Also you don't think the torso weapons will be allowed their own convergence seperate from the arms? They can after all be unlocked from each other.
Depending on the speed of the convergence it may be a very interesting tactic for fast mechs to quickly chage ranges to prevent accuracy due to constantly changing convergence.
