What current soundtrack from any show/movie/game do you think would fit best as a template for MWO's main theme. Mechwarrior, with a few exceptions, has always used "let's rock!" music in the past. By that, I mean rock music with no real progression or quality or epicosity. Yes, that most certainly includes the legendary MW2. Sorry if you disagree.

Anyway, I'd have to go with High Guard Battle March. With less techno and more battle drums, I think it would fit the Battletech "gritty future" militaristic theme.

I have a soft spot for "In the End" by Linkin Park ever since I saw the montage of cutscenes from the various MechWarrior titles put together with it as the background song.

In case you've never seen it:

Being the biggest thing with two legs on the battlefield does not mean you go without challenge.

How can you say MW2 had rock music?

I would say they are epic orchestral and tribal music. Have a listen to umber wall or iron piston.

I am only posting this since I am loyal to the mod. Mech Music has always had an eerie industrial theme in it for me :)

Sorry if you disagree.

Yeah, I am going to have to disagree heavily.

Because looking through my list, I count 7 out of the 21 tracks for Mechwarrior 2 Mercs that have heavy metal-esque tracks. The rest are more environmental/atmospheric tracks like Dust River, Gotterdamerung, Crystal Storm, and Tick Tock. And I was being generous on the tracks that might be considering "rock out" tracks, with Dragon's Teeth having a rather extensive part (more than half of the track length) being devoted to a slower piece with lots of non-traditional sounds in it. So many of the Mercs tracks are still extremely environmental pieces:

Even tracks with heavy use of distorted guitars aren't "rocking out", instead opting to use them as heavy set background noise. The guitars in this one are an excellent example. The name "Dust River" is completely fitting, as it reminds me of a desert.

Edit: and if you were talking about Mechwarrior 2 (no mercs or GBL), then you're definitely wrong, since there isn't a guitar to be heard in that soundtrack.

Iron Maiden or any heavy metal seems to suit the genre

Trooper by Iron Maiden
Battle Metal by Turisas
so many other metal songs it seems pointless to name them all, metal and metal robots a natural fit

I loved Alper/Hwang's techno soundtracks in MW2, GBL, MW2Mercs & Heavy Gear. More of that (if we could get Jeehun away from Hollywood) would be great...

...but I *DO* have to say that I'm liking the rock that was heard in the 'teaser' trailer - if that's the musical preference of PGI, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. :)

Well... to be completely honest... whatever music accompanies this game will probably be turned down so that I can listen to what I want to when I play. I tend towards rock or something heavier... but that's just me.

But then again... there's always...

You know what, I'll probably just play the MW2 soundtrack again and turn off ingame music or not have music at all.

This isn't really for gameplay music, more for menu/lobby/endgame/intro music. I'd just rather have the sound of wind/rain/autocannons with some light ambient drums in the background during gameplay.

In that case, I'd like to see some environmental pieces like this:

I'd love to have something like that set the mood as I look over the map of the Inner Sphere, the stars twinkling in the background.

It would be awesome that while you install this game that THIS SONG will be played. :)

And when you are browsing the game's menu, THIS SONG will be played. :D

Ill be playing Dopes "DIE MOTHERF*CKER DIE MOTHERF*CKER DIE" at max volume while i smash metal in this game. dont need a soundtrack, just one really good murderin song. The theme song from twisted metal black also fits somewhat but meh.
