I use either a nostormo n52 and the mouse or the Nostromo n52 and JS

You will need the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver For Windows which I have, and it allows all xbox 360 periferals to be used like the wireless controllers and the steering wheel.

DirectX allows keymapping. So yes my educated guess is that you will be able to use your 360 controller.

Does anyone know if the HOTAS has proper Force feedback support (not just vibration) and joystick twist (lateral? left/right axis) control.

I used to have a sidewinder FF and it was great for Mechwarrior 3 and 4.

This could be weird, but I plan to use my Logitech Momo driving wheel together with mouse. Mouse for torso, the wheel to turn the legs, accelerator for forward throttle and brake for backward throttle.

I'm not really fused what people want to use as long as we get user defined controls

Saitek X52 Pro stick/throttle setup most likely. And my Razer Nostromo. Between these
I shouldn`t need to touch my keyboard at all. I`m too used to twist rudder, and
I can`t imagine getting used to pedals.

HOTAS Thrustmaster and keyborad, and depending, maybe mouse as well. It's not the best stick, and in MWLL when using the zoom function it becomes way too sensitive and I can't hit anything. If MWO puts in non-linear sensitivity curves, or even better, if it's possible to change the sensitivity when zoomed in, then I'll use just the joystick. But for right now I sometimes switch over to my mouse real quick when I'm sniping in MWLL.

Mouse and Keyboard.

Potentially I would use my flight sim gear, but it depends on how it feels to aim with a joystick. As in the past(plainyg Mechwarrior 4 and MwLL) I found it better to simply employ my mouse. ^^

So long as the user can choose I am quite happy though.

Probably mouse(razer naga) and keyboard(boring normal one). Might look into the nostromo for left hand, though.

Probably back to my old Saitek X36. I always loved having the rudder control on the throttle, shame it's not on the latest models. I can't stand twisty joysticks.
