It's a fairly evil economy system to sucker you in, not to mention the high upkeep costs of "real" mechs which makes it almost impossible to enjoy this game for free. On the bright side, without any quality maps, variety of game types, or a rich single player campaign... the game's shallow enough to completely write off if you just want to casually stomp around in a mech for a few hours so long as you don't mind being stomped into dusty by anything that glances at you cross.

This is why I think they should have held the NDA until open beta. they have said on multiple occasions to consider a bunch of stuff as version .1 or whatever (beta), and now you are turning people away from even ever trying the game. Way to go. Please modify your responses on that forum so that poeple understand that much of the problem s are from less-than-1 versions of parts of the game.

I read the full post and its fairly spot on about the game in its Current state. and with 2-3 weeks(my estimate) till the open beta. I'm afraid there is to little time to test the critical stuff that needs to be added by then.

I fundamentally disagree with just about everything said in this so called review. The OP obviously has an axe to grind of some sort. Pity, because he will turn off people who would probably enjoy playing with his unbalanced view.

I read the whole thing and he's right.

They NDA should not have been lifted and the game is not even remotely ready for open beta. You have basically turned away possible customers.

I was perfectly willing to spend real money on mechs until I saw an Atlas basically costs 20 bucks.

I can buy a steam sale game for 20 bucks. I can put gas in my motorcycle for less than 20 bucks, and I get more entertainment from my bike than an Atlas. I can get quite a few beers at the local watering hole for 20 bucks, and get more entertainment than an Atlas can give me.

The GAME is fun, don't get me wrong, but I do feel the squeeze when I look at the cost of MC and notice the inadequacy of the Trials mechs due to the heat system.

I can definitely roll a Trials K2, Swagback, or Jenner if heat dissipated similar to MW3 or MW2 where only sustained volleys put me in the red.

Completely agree with your views regarding matchmaking, I feel it was a big mistake to leave matchmaking in its current state for so long. I disagree on the grind/trials though. I have no founders and currently have 13mechs (i spent money to buy mech bays) the grind is no worse than other games like league of legends. I do agree that customisation of trial mechs should be implemented, but these are things that are easily fixable. The GLARING issue is the netcode and its inability to properly detect anything moving above 100km/h with more than 50ms latency. This is a core issue that is NOT easily fixed and if i was ranting about anything it would be this.

He's a bit bitter about having to grind in a f2p game.

thats not honest, very biased one sides argument - says its p2w then goes on to say "nothing is unobtainable" with some grind.
/boggle. You need to play WoT with gold ammo to see what true p2w is.

THis argument has been raging all over the beta forums with most (read all) of the complaints about any grind is done by people like the OP, narcissistic, self entitled crowd. PGI have stated unreservedly that they want people to pay - that's how they'll stay in business.

Some just want it all handed to them on a silver platter.

I'm not a founder and I found the grind and repair bill to be reasonable. The economy is still being worked on but in a couple of days I could afford a medium hunchback. Some have gotten more and have already gotten the most expensive mech, the Atlas already. This is within a week of the last economy patch.

I'm honestly impressed that the OP has played 100 hours. Seeing as he is a non-founder who only created his account a bit over a month ago. When you add in the time factor to actually get a beta invite.... I'm not sold on this.

In other news, the sky is falling, the lyrans have made an atlas which can reach 120kph, and Katrina Steiner has returned from the dead.
Now to Duncan with sport

I wouldn't worry about it, only a few people will ever read his review. It'll be the major gaming sites and magazine reviews that'll help/harm membership. Dude should have at least waited until the game moved to the CryEngine 3.4 and DirX 11 before even remote writing a 'review' on a game that's still in closed BETA.

There is nothing honest about this review. This is biased, undeserved and at best a rant at worst a horrid way to dissuade people from trying out a product at launch (which isn't here yet).

then i suggest you don´t play games, but drink some beer and crash into a tree
JK, but seriously... an assault mech for about 18$ was the main tenor from the most ppl in this forums... btw. it´s permanent, and it´s for those lazy ppl who aren´t willing to grind a few hours... if you enjoy other things more than an atlas, keep your money for that and grind...

i am okay with the prices, just the purchase options for MC´s are weird... i played some MMO shooter´s in my life, and 20$ for a permanent "highend item" are pretty cheap compared to other games... 20$ for an average gun, 4 weeks rent... a permanent super SMG for about 60$... one week xp boost for 5$... head protection and body armor 30 day rent 5$ - 15$...comparable: a car in APB 20 - 50$ or more... that´s prices boys...

The economy was only the way he described it for 2 weeks out of the 4 months I was in beta, and it's not that way now. Matchmaking wasn't uneven until... .02 was introduced? Exploiting bugs/glitches is not a common spectacle, unless you're counting laser boats (see canon references like Swayback) or something else I'm missing. So while there are certainly issues to be brought up, addressed, and fixed, his responses to Ohm's video smack of an axe-to-grind.

The good:

 • It's mechwarrior.
 • It's cannon.
 • It's pretty.
 • It's F2P.
The bad:
 • It's very unbalanced.
 • Latency plays a huge factor in success.
 • Crazy grind and repair fees they encourage you to spend real money to circumvent.
 • There are numerous exploitable bugs.
 • The freebie "Trial" mechs are so horrible you actually hinder your team by piloting one.
 • There is no separation between organized players and the general populace making 99% of matches lop-sided steamrolls.
 • The game is essentially Pay 2 Win (you can $purchase$ stat upgrades that give you a distinct advantage from the start) unless the thought of spending months of straight losses to gain equal ground is appealing.

OP blatantly lies in his "review" on that site. Hurp durp.
