Hmm I think the slew of horrible RPG's out there has really got some people misunderstanding the RP aspects of THIS game. Role Playing is just that. RPing has nothing to do with Levelling or character stats etc. Its an attitude and a way of playing. No versions of MPBT have ever had hard coded what ya'll are coming across as believing RP is. Read some of the stories posted in some of bar areas. Thats what we consider RPing for this game. Hard coded unit structures and rank structures in Houses would be awesome. Hard house leadership functions would be awesome but none of those have any effect on how some of us will play the game. And thsoe who dont are perfectly welcome to ignore those who do. Thats the good thing about BT :)

I hope to see more of the RPG elements of an MMORPG added eventually. For now, I expect this would be no more than the multiplayer part of MW4 and that's fine to start with and build on.

I would like this to be "online" in the sense of MW3. I just don't think an MMO in the traditional sense would do Mechwarrior justice. Lower quality graphics and game-play killing lag is not how anyone should want to play this game.

so how do you guys interpret this?

from the "game" section of this website

Quote

"...a player will be able to train their MechWarrior to specialize in their style of gameplay. Players are highly encouraged to participate in team based gameplay. The fast manoeuvrable scouts will be able to relay information back to the commander units who in turn relay that information to the attacker and defender units. As players advance their MechWarrior in a role, more skills and abilities related to their role will become available. Remember, a team who plays together will always win together."

not sure but sounds like they are trying to mix in some elements of an MMORPG to me.

They have summoner levels in LoL, but you still just go into lobbies and play matches and the like. Basically you will have an account and your account will have your pilot level. More than likely the stuff you get with your pilot level will be perks based on the role you play.

Most likely it will be like Battlefield 3 and the like... as you play a roll you unlock a skill or something for that roll...
Battlefield 3 has:
Medic
Engineer
Support
Recon

As you play these rolls you unlock more stuff for them. Not really a RPG element but a way of leveling a character none the less

I feel MMO still refers to MMORPG. That's where it originated from. People got tired of adding the RPG at the end and just started using MMO but were still refering to a MMORPG.

When MMORPG was being used I had never heard any other type of game referred to as an MMO. I played Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, and Battlefield and none of them were referred to as any type of MMO.

I'm not saying the definition can't change, but don't be surprised when you call the game a MMO that people generate a certain expectation of elements of the game.

I had to Quote this for truth because people got their panties in a wad... This is a MMO. As in "Massive Multi-player Online" where WoW is a MMORPG. This will however be a tactical game instead of focused on the RPG element. *** I miss my Chrome Hounds...

I miss Chrome Hounds too... That game was great. Too bad they took down the servers. (How many years ago was that?)
I remember getting involved with a pretty good group. They taught me to put a shield in front of my face lol. I always rolled out with assault rifles. *sigh* See? Now you've made me nostalgia at a game that isn't even that old... T_T

I'd love it became a MMORPG instead, though. :)

So we have to walk all over planets in our 'mechs, shooting womp rats for random drops of ferro-fibrous plate and medium lasers, until we upgrade to fighting Locusts and Jenners to get better random drops? :D

Been thinking and one thing that is a death blow is if same thing happens that happened in rift, you que up for battle and sit there for 20 to 30 min waiting.

I think personally that a game like Eve Online in scope could not be attained by mechwarrior simply because it would not make sense for teh devs to make it like Eve. Unless you're all ready to have almost endless battlefields. That would be new and quite strange imo

Those games /aren't/ MMOs so.... whats the point in mentioning them? The "Massive" part implies hundreds to thousands of players active on a "single" server, CoD and Battlefield are 64player("legally" anyways) max server FPS with a global stat tracker. So far neither is this game from what I've seen (depending on how exactly the persistent world element turns out anyway)

Totally an MMORPG. I have been leveling my board whoring skill to +6 and been working on my trolling skill for sometime now but sadly it takes a long time to level and be useful. I hope that by the time the game goes live my skills will be aligned perfectly so as to have a constant flow of nerd rage so I can best utilize my WTFPWN attack.

Clearly people don't understand what a persistent online world is, and also they probably never heard of Chrome Hounds.

From all that I've read and understand from the forums and the updates the "mmo" part is to be very similar to that of Chrome Hounds.

WWII Online is the classic example of this type of "persistent" world or game play.
