Anyone know when people started saying "Pug-stomping" instead of "Pub-stomping"? Or do I have this backwards and never ran across it before? I first encountered the term Pub-stomping in Left 4 Dead, but more recently have noticed people saying Pug-stomping. I've gathered that it's the same thing, but I neither understand the new short-hand's origin (Pub-stomping of course being to stomp public players, general public, etc), nor understand why it changed. Any insights?

I know nothing of stomping Pubs, I know of Pugs, so if I were to stomp one, it would be the one i know. I have never heard a pug called a pub. I like pubs, good place to get a pint, no reason to stomp one, unless, they wouldn't serve you a pint, mind ya?

While "Pub" is a shortened form of "public", "Pug" is an acronym for "pick up group". I have never been in a game where the randomly generated team was called a "pub". I only know the term "pug". Seems to be the same thing and if said fast enough I dont know that I would even notice you called it something different. So, call it what you will I suppose, just stomp them...

I'm still not used to the PUG acronym, I don't particularly like it. I never played wow seriously and before founders we called them random drops vs group drops

I dislike PUG as well, but I find myself using it just out of a "when in Rome" deal.

Pub would refer to a public server, where your whole clan can jump in and stack one site and stomp.
If there are no game rooms, but everything is matchmaking, then nothing is public or private... There are just premade groups and random groups or pug for short.
So that's why it's sometimes pub and others pug
