Please pardon me if these have been answered, but I did not see anything like the subject anywhere.

As background my first introduction to Mechwarrior involved a little blue Jenner and House Davion.

The galaxy was divided up into vast areas controlled by the Great Houses, and we would fight multiple tactical battles for border planets. Usually, this was for resources and tech. There was a galactic map depicting areas of factional control and the whereabouts of planets therein.

Will there be a strategic game as well as the tactical?

Will the houses gain and lose faction with one another, shifting the focus of battles over time?

Will the House objectives be determined by AI or by dominant players? If the latter, will the system of deciding priorities depend on factional voting in the case of federations, or autocratic decisions by a leader or council, as might be the case for feudal Houses?

Will control of various planets correlate in-game to the availability and cost of parts, ammunition, mechs?

Must a faction control border planets before being able to strike deeper into the opponents' territory?

Will players be able to defect to an opposing camp?

Will there be interfaction communications at player level?

Short answer is yes.

There will be a galaxy map and planets will be changing hands because of the player battles that are fought on them. Like Adridos said there is a blog called the Community Blog that was released early on that talks about some of it.

I imagine it will work something like the "Neroimus War" from Chromehounds.

Territories are linked together, and you have to capture the border ones before moving on into the interior and so on, eventualy leading to the enemy capitol. How much enemy territory they'll actually let us take from one another is something that is still up in the air. As much as I want it, I doubt very much they'll let invade Luthien.

First time I played Chromehounds, my first thought was how much better a Mechwarrior game would be with a feature like that. I'm sure some of the inner worlds will be untouchable except on certain occasions. However if they follow history then YES you will invade invade Luthien. Smoke Jaguar and Nova Cat forces landed in 3052
