Hi all,

Done a quick search to find nothing on this topic - simple question; does anyone know if the game will run on Windows 8? Or has anyone managed to play the beta under any of the Windows 8 RCs?

Using windows 8 Pro 64-bit and playing MWO with no any sort of problems with very high texture settings.

might make joystick support harder. my understanding is it doesnt handle older stuff at all. most joysticks are ancient arent they.

Windows 8..ehhh

Nah seriously, do you guys like it? I heard it is very tablet orientated so it makes navigation on a PC weird. Is there a classic mode to be like Windows 7, or is it really not that bad of a system as is?

Sorry for off-topic.

You can download Classic Shell for free and restore the Windows 7 start button and functionality.

EDIT: I like Windows 8 and it handles my Bulldozer quad core cpu a lot better than Windows 7 did. The game runs fine under Windows 8 and gave me an improved performance.

I've had access to all the internal Win 8 builds, and MWO has always worked fine. Though, Nvidia drivers were a problem back then. Nvidia drivers have been fine lately.

works fine for me, other than having to manually install the directx web installer thing.

offtopic:
regarding the tablet style thing, I barely use it. it takes all of 1 click after boot to instantly get to the desktop. from there its almost business as usual. a little different but I got used to it quickly and seems better in several ways.

one neat thing if you are the kind of person how uses social sites a lot (which i'm not) is if you use your windows account (such as a Hotmail address) as your login then it connects you to everything automatically. then you can click the email app in metro view to get both your email and facebook thing instantly. you can also click the message app and you can see who is on msn, and facebook too I believe.

as someone has said there are already 3rd party things to restore a total old style desktop. there is also a simple way to bypass metro and load straight to desktop. or restore the start button if that is your gripe.

Works fine for me. For some reason I can't get Windows 8, the Mumble overlay and MWO to all play nice - that causes a crash to desktop. One issue I do see is that clicking on social related buttons sometimes tries to open a link to the Windows 8 app store, which is bizarre.

When I'm playing MW:O sometimes during a battle Windows 8 metro interface pops up and pulls me out of the game. That's really annoying.

I've been running on Win8 Pro 64-bit for a while now - absolutely no issues.

I'm running on Win8 Enterprise 64bit. First I could not start MWO because two dll's where missing. After I fixed that lots of texture were missing in game. What can I do? :)

Running Win8 Enterprise x64 as well. Had the same problem. Are mechs and buildings and such transparent? If so, this thread fixed it for me:

http://mwomercs.com/...rain-invisible/

Default settings for the Win8 AMD drivers are not compatible with MWO and need adjusting. Too bad they didn't take my advice and sticky that thread.

PGI do not as yet officially support Windows 8 but as you can see above, that's not necessarily a barrier to you using it.

Windows 8 is great. A little bit better performance, metro crap can be gotten rid of with the free app of your choice, but most important of all are the major security upgrades in Windows 8. Oh, and next version of DirectX is Window 8 only...
