This is something I'd like to see MechWarrior Online have sometime down the road, something that we saw way back in 1993 and I don't think we've really seen since.

Instead of your progress in the game being charted by a mere number on a scoreboard, or a little icon on an achievement board, I'd like to see something similar to the old X-Wing game.

In the hangar interface in that game, you could mouse over your locker or closet and view your dress uniform. At the beginning of the game the tunic was empty, of course, but:

Posted Image

- as you gained rank, you displayed the appropriate insignia
- as you completed missions and tours of duty, you gained campaign ribbons
- as you completed training courses on specific starfighters, you gained badges
- as you performed exemplary feats in battle, you accrued big, shiney decorations

The dress uniforms of each major Inner Sphere power as well as most of their chief decorations have long been detailed in BattleTech fiction. With the robust achievement system seen on Steam and Xbox Live, we've come a long way since '93 and can have a lot more realistic criteria for decorations compared to the old 'X points in mission = Y decoration'.

Something I'd really like to see.

if i didnt do all my mech piloting in the nude ild 100% support this, ill still give it 99.9% though since i can keep the uniform as a seat blanket!

This is a very interesting idea. Keep their art department busy. I would love to see something like this if they go forward with a avatar creator, even if it was not in at launch. A very nice creative way to display your game's progress.

Excellent suggestion. I haven't played X-Wing in such a long time I completely forgot about this feature...that screenie brought back a lot of memories. ;)

If it doesn't start looking too tacky, nice idea. Always loved how soviet generals/marshals of old kept the tradition of breast armor alive with pounds of metallic medals covering their front. (I could see the Lyrans going that way...) ;)

the whole idea is tacky already. please for the love of all that is good, no.

rewards should be meaningful, ie, "the general is impressed with your performance at so and so, please except this weapon/armor/ammo"

I support Brens idea because it is a concept for the devs to figure out. I don't like the idea of mission rewards being "gifted" ammo or 'mech components. I support component scarcity with infrequent rewards and some type of salvage system.

Would really, really like to see something like this, even if it is a long-term project that wasn't fully implemented at launch. I have a heck of a lot of fun in Battlefield type games or others playing collect them all with the pins, awards, achievements, etc.

Most of the time when these types of fluff are added to games, I will go out of my way to grind up characters, work on weapons, play more than I normally would without awards/graphical representations of them, just to collect everything. For MWO that, for me, would probably translate into spending more real world $$ depending on how getting new mechs is implemented (I have been assuming a LoL type mech/hero purchase system)

I like this idea Bren. Very cool system for achievements instead of some nondescript checklist.

Yep, excellent idea! As much as I despise the need* for achievements in modern games, I really like this particular realization(and yeah, I got almost all of those in X-Wing back then ;)). So, just as Coffin said, it would be shown on your "avatar", posing in full ceremonial uniform with all medals attached. It would also be a nice touch to have some marking on a mech. Nothing too much, maybe a rank and maybe special markings for the couple of the most valuable awards, if the pilot happens to have them.

*Edit: Seriously? Ell-yuu-ess-tee is a swear word now? B) Changed it for "need" but still kinda shocked. Moderation these days... :)

The more I think about it, the more I want something in game like this. Make it so :(

Love the idea, passed it along. Though you picked a dirty Rebel pilot there, we all know the real pilots use TIE Interceptors. Shields are for trainees. :(

Man, this reminded me how glad I am we're a merc unit with our own uniforms, and we don't have to dress up like Space Dracula. :(

Love the idea.

This would add soo much character to this game and set it apart from all the little "achievement lists" out there currently.

+1!

i like this idea. i would also like to add that we should NOT know the requirements for specific medals until we aquire them or some will play for achievements before playing for the team.

especially when tv and radio are now throwing around the "A" word and "B" word like its regular english. Censor the internet, uncensor TV/Radio lol. IMO it should be censored by choice, or age.

Badges! Badges! We don't need no stinking Badges! No seriously the idea of a dress uniform and medals would be great fluff to add later......back to work on the game lol!
