I posted in that thread, first, almost forgetting this thread was here except for the link someone posted, and I think what I posted was, possibly, relevant to both conversations.

I really like this idea and I am wondering if this might be taken one step further when dealing with clan positions. Would it be overly difficult to tie a player's accomplishments (badges, rank, etc) to the position they are authorized to hold within a clan? An example of this might be that someone who has received a commondation for valor would be authorized to lead a lance, or someone who receives a medal for marksmanship would be authorized to be a gunnery instructor.

This is a brilliant idea!

I especially like the comparison to the old X-Wing vs TIE Fighter as that shows exactly the kind of fluff i would like with the medals and ribbons.

You could also have campaign/long service ribbons (i.e. Beta (academy graduation), here at the start (warzone deployment), 1 month, 6 month, 1 year and so on.).

Great idea, also a nifty way to keep track of all the Operations you were present for over the damn-well-better-be long lifespan of this game. Always liked trying to make my mechwarriors in the Mech Commander games have as many ribbons and medals as possible..
