It would be nice to eventually have an avatar creation method so that we can look into an opposing mech's cockpit and see the pilot inside. However, that's a fairly secondary concern, and I wouldn't want to see any resources put into it until after launch.

I feel it's a good idea. There are a lot of people here who feel like role playing, and having an avatar helps that. I don't feel it needs to be terribly detailed, but something eventually would be nice.

Sound like a great idea, maybe not for launch, but further down the line...

I'd rather the developers spend their time making the game better. More 'Mechs, more maps, whatever.

You know, if we could gather on a TS server or whatever, I'm sure someone would be willing to GM a little A Time of War campaign...

Perhaps with a different system, but still.

Where's the "This would be an unnecessary waste of dev time." option?

I'd like some form of portrait creator to add in front of the faction symbol and all...

But yea, they should probably get the game out first and leave all decorations other than the Hula Girls till after launch.

One labour-cheap way to do this quick would be to simply allow people to upload custom images to use for their pilot face, of given dimensions.

And if they dare upload certain types of pictures...

*Cue hammer*

I voted yes, but it was a realistic yes. Get the game out, then give us the ability to make an avatar. Even if it's just a "mugshot" in one corner of our pilot skill tree.

All the other stuff can come down the road. Hayashi's suggestion above is a good one. Set a threshold of X number of reports warrant a actual review of the avatar by CS would keep the costs down as other wise it would either be useless to report or cost way too much.

an Eve Style portrait to start would be nice, Later a full body avatar, would be even cooler, but first let us get the game.

Because one of the strengths of battletech is its character driven universe, I think that it would add more than detract to have avatars that could interact with each other. I think it would add a lot to the game if their was an "out of mech" element, where players could interact with or observe the movers and shakers of the universe, and witness the history of the battletech universe unfold before our eyes, rather than simply reading that a various IS personality has done X action. However, that is asking a lot and I like Hayashi's idea of including a means for players to upload a portrait from a minimalist perspective. However, considering the universe, it would make a lot of sense to include a way to interact and observe history unfold

Yeah, It sucks when someone asks for opinions, and them some inconsiderate person goes and gives one.

I can appreciate this, but I'm always going to want another 'Mech option added to the game before a top hat for my avatar.

I'd love to have the ability to create a character and hop around in various places, just imagine the possibilities:

- You could share a mechbay with your "regular" teammates and chat with them among the mechs.
- A dropship or base could be your default starting location, a inventory of sorts would be managed from your quarters.
- House players could visit their capital worlds and interact with other players from their faction there.
- Merc players could visit Outreach and perhaps get cheaper parts/weapons if you are well connected enough. This could also the place for getting new contracts.
- Invading Clan players could have the respective flagships of their factions as a base of operations. It would be fun to see a Focht NPC walk around the Dire Wolf (the flagship not the mech).
- Storyline elements could be played out here, news of let's say the Clan invasion could be seen on screens.
- Operation Scorpion would cause a blackout of communications, this would be reflected in the player environments.
- House and later Clan players would have a field uniform and a dress uniform
- Merc players could wear whatever they want
- There could be tons of NPC's, astechs, medtechs, civilians, traders and storyline characters (Hanse Davion, Morgan Kell, Natasha Kerensky, etc)

Just to name a couple of things, but it would primarily be a tool to get more involved in the universe and storyline that unfolds.

I like this, dear god do I love this. Unfortunately, this sound more like something that would come out of a big budget MMO like Star Wars The Old Republic. As much as I love the idea of this being in the game, the more realistic side of me knows that MWO simply doesn't have the budget to include it.

(I don't think anyone ever discussed this in the foruns yet, if im wrong please link me the page since i wasn't unable to find any post about it - thanks in advance. Posted Image )

So we all know that the pilot and the mech will be two different factors in game. So im now focusing on the pilot here, or his looks to be more precise. Should there be a character creation to distinguish ourselves better in game from other players rather than just the pilot's name, maybe to be used in some sort of 3D lobby while awaiting mech combat, or while in hangar where we could just walk arround our mech viewing like if it was with our own eyes, or maybe to give players the chance to interact with each other in a funnier way?

I have seen this being made in many other MMO games recently, (EvE Online, APB Reloaded, etc.) and i just needed to ask what is your opinion on it. This can be a way to cut out the idea that MWO will be something as "basic" as World of Tanks...

I believe that this will happen eventually. However, until a time when individual pilot avatars are up and walking, perhaps a simple avatar for a players profile will suffice. Think of it as a precursor.

We're all wearing full body coolant suits, aren't we? I don't mind this later on, but not for the beta or the release. Too much development time and resources that could be put toward mechs and maps.

I would have to agree here.

Now if it was some extra "pay to unlock this feature" I wouldn't mind so much. It's not something I would care to have as an option. I can't help but think it would be like Imp fleet in SWTOR.

Voted yes, but only after core game mechanics are implemented & ballanced.
From start use placeholder, some default 3D human model that sit in every cockpit.
its not just asthetic, taking out pilot is brutal, but viable strategy

I want my character to feel like a real separate entity from other pilots but I dont think we need to be able to walk around outside of our Mechs.

I think while out of the mech there should be a chat window ala EvE ...not WoW or WoT ... The Eve window allows you to have real conversations. It informs you clearly of who is online that you know. It automatically groups you and informs you of who is online in special in game affiliations. e.g. your corp or alliance or faction.

The wow / WoT model does not encourage interaction. as the information for who is online is separate from the location you actually chat.

This, but not at launch or in the near future. I can wait to have a face or an avatar. get the game out get the bugs fixed and fine tune the mechs first.

6 months to a year after the clans arrive will be soon enough.
