On the bright side, there's no way it'll ever be as bad as the Diablo III stress-test launch.

Way some people talk about open beta on the beta forums the game will crash and burn and be shutdown with in 24 hours of launch.

Will it? Don't know but at least someone had the balls to step up and try and make a MW game.

The only way we can support the game right now is for everyone to purchase a founder's program so PGI would have enough money to pay for overtime so we can get a stable product @ 16th.

The problem is with today's "I want it now!" instant gratification society, lets face it. If it doesn't open run in beta well, a lot of people will leave it in the dust to play some other game, and it might die from loss of interest in the short run.

well thats my thoughts anyway.

I expect proper matchmaking and proper game lobby on open beta.

Aaaand... dont forget to support PGI, show your love by purchasing the Legendary Founder's today!

They say "Open Beta" but they release the game to everyone and start taking people's money. That's not Open Beta, that's Release. It's even being marketed as 'come play this game, pay us money, etc'.

In the games current state, each patching producing more performance and stability problems, still missing content (like item descriptions, lobby chat, game modes, etc), the quality of the current client is a Beta quality, but the game is being launched next week.

It's not a good sign for PGI or MWO.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion when into Open Beta and people were allowed to purchase the digital copy to play while it was being developed... this is absolutely no different than Sins with the exception of this being a F2P game with the option of spending cash. Yeah, I spent a chunk of cash to become an Legendary Founder, but I won't regret PGI wanting to go Open Beta... it's going to be the true stress test for the game, something they need to honestly do. I've been in the Beta phase since three days after they announced keys being given... MWO has come a damn long way from it's initial steps with the community, and they've done an awesome job in my opinion... "it's Beta" closed, or open... it's still under development, and will be once past Beta when content continues to be released and things are balanced with new content.

Question to everyone who thinks the game is not ready for beta. Please tell me if the game in its current state does it pass the tests outlined by the devs?

Is it really beta?

Let's see...

Once we announce we are in Open Beta (Date TBD), what will change?
  • New features are still being added. Check
  • New content is added on a regular basis. Check
  • Final data reset. Check
  • Balance and tuning are still happening regularly in response to scaling up the user base. Check
  • The game is 95% stable. Che... wait a minute, false dezimal... The game is 9.5% stable. Check
Yup, it's ready! ;)

Is this game really ready for open beta?

We have only a shooter game with battle mechs. And this client is not really stable!!!

Where is the metagame? I will hunt dracs, capture planets and defend the sweet princess, but i cant. Every evening the same old maps, same mechs, same tactics, same shooter mode. Thats not really MWO, thats counterstrike.

i have to say love stomping around and playing in my Mechs havent been this excited over a MMO in a long time, granted some issues are PC related that cant be helped but the other issues and Known issues will be fixed in time i have faith PGI will deliver as for the current stat a few more tweeks to the Cry Engine and ad DX11 and a few other server patches then yes OBT will be ideal to get better numbers but content wise is lacking and we all know they are trying hard to deliver you dont want them to release content broken so give them time

The biggest complaint will be lack of matchmaking where pre-mades get C-Bills and XP while many frustrated casual players get rolled to death and quit.

I would be looking for a more complete experience than just a Mech Shooter. He'll, I want to start a corporation that manufactures cooler running mech weapons, or something like that.

I don't see why people are complaining so much. the idea of beta is to identify issues and make the developer aware of them so they can be fixed. sure there a lot of issues right now but they are being addressed as the game gets patched. instead of creating threads that say this game sucks you should be submitting tickets and or adding constructive critisism to an existing thread on the issue. if the server crashes due to a heavyload then maybe they need a hardware upgrade but that can;t be done without us funding the game and they have to be able to turn a profit for that to happen so keep playing and lets show them the demand for this game is worth PGI to continue to invest in. i am more than happy to support this game as long as i see continuious improvements and that is excactly what i've seen. go through the support forums and you will see how many issues have been identified, addressed/resolved with a patch shortly after their discovery by players. game development is a long process so patience is the key to making this game successful and hopefully they will reward it later when the game is doing well and they can afford to give a little back to the community

We are MechWarrior-Junkies. We waited for more than a decade for a fresh new near-to-BattleTech-MechWarrior-Title. We know, that Microsoft didn't do anything with the franchise for financial reasons.
We know that the Reboot of MechWarrior failed cuz the Large Publishers said: "No, Thx". for the same reasons.
We're afraid of, that presenting MW:O to a broader audience at the current state will lead to a disaster.
Because we know, that in this case it would be most likely the end for the franchise.
We are...
MechWarrior(-Junkie)s!

When it comes right down to it they have no choice but to go open beta, whether you like it or not, they can do little more to improve the game in closed beta. It needs the stress test to truly move on. There are obvious short-falls and performance issues but they will be patched over time. The game is 95% stable, just because it doesn't run for YOU doesn't mean it wont run for the next guy. Important to note is the game is not broken, its incomplete, do not mistake the two, making a game is not all fun and happy, it takes a long time and is filled with a lot of hard work.

I can definately see your point Arnold as since the last patch it has been very unstable for me however its kinda like the chicken or the egg argument. they need funing to make the game better which means they need a broader base of players to pay for stuff but i agree that in its current state it may drive away casual gamers. if i could afford it i would upgrade to legendary to support them further. remember PGI's budget might not allow them to delay open beta any longer as they had originally planned for august so i guess they are kinda at that make or break moment. I hope they can address the stability on the open beta patch next week and at least add another game mode to keep people interested long enough to fund the game to its completion which will hoopefully be as epic as i think it will be. in the meantime its important for us Mechwarrior Junkies to stay positive in the forums so that the casuals can form their own opinion on the game and so they can see the long term value of continued support for this IP.

Cheers

I 100% agree with your statement. I am on a lower end system and i think a lot of the stability issues are not nessessarily on the developers end. I only hope that the casual gamer understands what open beta means and they'll hang in there for the finished product

The problem is, in most real open beta, the game data and whatever progress that is made is reset when the game goes to its real launch. So people can continue to test the game and bugs found can be abused and whatnot. However, PGI's decision of not wanting to reset the game anymore after the game hits Open Beta is a big decision, and to most it means that the game is live because the data and progression is live, which is what is important to pretty much all gamers.
