Can we expect persistent chat features? Say for example when waiting for a game, ect., will we be able to have a world wide chat channel with friendly units/houses(all CapCon and their Merc allied units can chat in this channel, but no "enemies" can, or channels specifically for that house, or say a world wide mercenaries or lone wolves channel)?
I personally would like to see a persistent chat window when not in a drop, visible while in mechlab. A way to stay in touch with friends if you are a lone wolf, and place to talk with your team mates and people from your house or corporation without being in the same game or having to use a 3rd party feature like MSN messenger or IRC.
Besides chat, how much effort will the development team be putting into the interface? There are many easy to program ways to make the game seem much more detailed(such as just adding different backrounds for the mechlab and creating a separate screen for where you purchase weapons, and a separate screen for where you go to have weapons mounted or your mech repaired).
For myself, when I was in NBT, being able to see a map of the known universe and watch planets trade hands and look at statistics(including my own) added great detail to the game, and knowing that this game will at least have that makes me very happy, but I would like a more persistent feel myself, and something that ties each drop together and gives a greater sense of that each drop means something. Perhaps this sort of thing is in the works and someone could deny or confirm the state of the "lobby" and how detailed it is.
Anyone know what is in the works?
EDIT: I know the gameplay is supposed to put you as the pilot of a mech, which is why you can't actually step out of the mech and run around. That is great, but what would be kind of neat in the future would be different backrounds giving you the illusion you are out of your mech, ordering weapons or repairs. Perhaps someday when sitting in the lobby waiting to join a drop having a video on persistent replay(when outside of the mechlab, ect) that varies depending on what planet you are on(for example, seeing a Davion or Steiner backdrop of a city or military base when in their friendly space, or a city in rubble when on a contested planet gearing up for a drop). Little things like that to draw a person into the game and give a more persistent feel rather than a series of matches.
