Hey everyone. Im a newb!! Ive played previous mechwarrior games at friends houses so I have very minimal expereince with Mechwarrior. Never played Battletech tho I did read a few of the books when I was in middle school many many years ago.

Anyways being new I am trying to put this all into a perspective I can understand. Being a long time Eve player Eve is the closest I can really relate to. So Ill use EVE as an example of the role I prefer to fill in an eve fleet and let you guys tell me whih mech would be simlair in MWO. IN EVE I tend to fly a heavily armed and armored Battleship (Abbadon with t2 pulse for the eve players) I like to have a lot of armor around me and I like to be able to put out good consistent damage at flexible ranges. I dont like to have to close in real close to the enemy to get good hits in. Id prefer to be able to stay at medium to long ranges and still put out effective damage. From what Ive read it sounds like I should be in a heavy or assault mech tho the only assault mech is the Atlas and from I gather its a short range brawler I have had expereince trying to close in short range slow battleships in EVE (T2 blasterthron for the eve players) and I hated it. So I dont think the Atlas is really going to be my Mech of choice.

Even tho Im a newb I do come from EVE and in EVE bigger isnt always better. So I get the idea of role warfare we have something similair in EVE where larger ships arent better just fill a different role.

Bobby.

(In all seriousness, of the 'Mechs shown so far the Centurion is great to learn on. Has lasers, AC, and missiles, ok speed, good armour, and can hit people at all ranges.)

Depends, I could outfit you in a variety of mechs, though from what I've seen so far as released goes, you'd probably make it as either a Dragon, or Catapult. Maybe Centurion.

Also an old EVE player here. I was a big fan of Assault and Heavy Assault ships. I usually end up piloting Light and Medium Mechs with high damage outputs.

I've driven my share of Abby's, though, and if you want a big slow armored beast then I'd go with an assault class mech. Being slow shouldn't bother you. In fact an Atlas will seem downright speedy compared to the Abbadon.

Anything in the medium or heavy weight range would be good to find out what you do best on since many of them blend the elements together fairly well, you could probably find one you like if you can find the free download of Mechwarrior 4 that's floating around somewhere...

EDIT: try this link http://www.mektek.ne...downloads-r1204

Getting into the game I would agree with Garth's suggestion. Not just because he's Garth but because he is obviously I have to. The Centurion has a mix weapon ranges making medium best and being a medium mech would in theory give you an idea if you want more guns and armor, or the option to run away.

I would agree with Garth on the Centurion. It's not my favorite design, but it is very forgiving.

Gotta go with the Centurion, I built one in MW4 according to the canon stats and it performs quite well.

Sounds like one of the heavier mediums would suit you. A lot will depend on the mechs available. Since you like to stand off and hit the enemy, you might want to consider a fire support role. If you like to manuver the medium is the one as its role will probably be as flanker/mobile responder. We are all a bit at sea as to what ride we aill choose as we await more info. Who are the 12 models, er mechs. Wrong universe! That's going to be the a big part of the fun.

Fire support does sound like a fun role for me. Speed an manuverability have never been a major concern as long as I have giant bricks of armor.

Yeah, I'd say: go for a catapult. Focus on staying far away from the enemy, shoot ALL the LRMs (long range missiles)

You could try out MW:LL (MechWarrior: Living Legends) to get useto mech types and roles and what size bracket you'd want to be in
