The term 'Clan'

Just a pet peeve. A lot of people use the term 'Clan' when talking about the mob they will be fighting with when MWO kicks off.
This term is incorrect. In the Battletech/Mechwarrior setting Clan refers specifically to a political group based in the Pentagon Worlds of the Kerensky Cluster, made up of 17 separate 'nations'. these are the guys that kick over the Inner Spheres fence in about 18 months.
What you are looking for is the term 'Unit' or 'Company' or even 'Regiment'. If you are going to play the game please at least learn about the setting that's been in place for night on 30 years and has a really cool, well realised and detailed background.
Try sarna.net for starters!
Warm regards

Oh and I prefer PPC Warhawk for clan stuff over sarna.

All the information is frozen in time right where I want my battletech to stay forever.

If I understood your message right: what they are looking for is the term guild. Or simply as you put it: unit.
However, one correction: the Pentagon Worlds are a cluster in their own right. They do not belong to the Kerensky Cluster.

I'm sure it happens, as its normal gaming parlance , but I'm fairly sure most individuals on the boards are familiar with both terms.

If you'd contest that, it's fine, but I'd like to see some examples, if you can provide them.

I pointed out elsewhere, that the generic "clan" (with the small "c") is what the majority of gamers out there tend to use to describe their gaming group. "Clan" with the capitalized "C" is the group specifically portrayed in the BT milieu.
I just advocated using the "clan" as an adjective for the general gamer groups/teams/units not found in the BT milieu and "Clan" as the noun when referring to the BT-oriented groups.
Clan RP-oriented players tend to use the latter and rarely (if ever) the former. Even among the IS players, the distinction is observed. It is the other way around with everybody else. I suspect the long term BT/CBT/MW players will outnumber the "I just wanna play the nextest biggest baddest game out there" group who tend to be more transitory once they have played the game some. I hope they stick around longer, though.

Splitting hairs, Semyon. "Clan" has been part of gamer jargon since the 90s. I personally prefer "squad".
Johns is right too. Those of us who care about the lore will be around the longest and anyone who sticks with us will adopt our way of speaking.
It's not something to worry about. =)

Oh agree. I was just curious as to where "A lot of people use the term 'Clan' when talking about the mob they will be fighting with when MWO kicks off." .
I personally don't recall anyone mixing the two terms. Not that it has not happened, however, it does not seem like it's something that's happened "A lot" in these forums. Just wanted to see these posts that spawn the need to open this thread.
If it's outside these forums then I do not see the need to open such a thread, especially here.
If it's here in the forums, I would be curious to see it (And personally still do not see the need to open this thread. Preaching to the converted as it is)
Nothing wrong with it, just seemed superfluous.
