Hi there guys was wandering about up and coming Clan tech and there mechs, most of there mechs were Omni mechs, will this be the case with the Clan mechs or will we still be stuck with hardpoints?and if so how will this work with current gameplay(balance)?

I expect Omnis will be used as variants in the game. Free placement 9no harpoints) would be way OP, and isn't even really used much in the TT game.

With the Prime, Alpha, etc, you get the benefit of using those names in the game, as well as having the mechs look like what they're carrying (ie missiles ina missile rack, etc)

Definitely not. First of all, Clan warfare at all isn't going to happen for a long time due to balancing issues. Their tech is better. There would have to be a new game-mode based around a small number of Clan 'Mechs versus a larger number of IS designs, and I just don't see it happening for a while.

Yes when the Clans rear their ugly heads we will see OmniMechs. (The devs will have to go into hiding if they don't introduce OmniMechs simply because the Timber Wolf is a 75 ton OmniMech that the sphereoids call the Mad Cat. Now if we don't see OmniMechs, then there can't be Mad Cats, and if there arn't some Mad Cats running around within the next year to 18 months from now, a large part of the community will have Kittens frankly ^_^ ) Now my guess is OmniMechs will be where the mad doctor gamers (players who must create FrankenMech - a monster who is way OP and is game breaking as he uses equipment in highly unbalancing ways and frighten villagers/players by his very presence) but will be lightly restricted by how much pod tonnage you have. No doubt the Omnis will have the 4 'official' configuations, but likely you will be able to tinker away.

The introduction of the Clans will be a major headache, as you will have to try and balance them through economy, and community warfare, as well as a match making system. It might also be handled by if you want to play as a Clanner, then your gonna have to bid your way into battle, and the game setup if done correctly would make the battles stacked against you numbers wise, due to the technological advantage of clan tech.

Yes we will.
Clan Invasion starts march 3050. We are currently in 3049 timeline with each passing day in "realtime". So figure for yourself from the current state of game, to what it should look like and then add extra time for creating Omni mechs and fitting the Invasion Clans into a community warfare design. So In the year 2013, probably in august or later Omnis can become available as DLC for paying Clanners :D

I actually had a little bug on my mechlab today, where my atlas showed hardpoints of the type "omni".

I am curious if the time line will be accurate. Clan wolf took "The Rock" in the Oberon Confederation on August 13th 3049. That is where Phelan Kell sent his transmision showing his incounter with the Timberwolf Vlad piloted ( just before getting his Wolfhound shot out from under him). Shortly there after Comstar coined the name Madcat. So we shall see how it all plays out.

Actually I don't think the Omnis would be a game breaker just cause they have the weapons dosen't mean that the player can use them effectively ;p You can still out manuver a Madcat

Well with honesty I don't think that anyone can really say. I do know that PGI have stated that they are focusing for now on the years between 3015 and 3049 and really haven't stated that they are going further. But it is always a possibility. So maybe we might see Omnimechs in the game in the future.

my question isnt whether or not we will see omni mechs in game(we will) but whether I as a founder will see my founders mech rendered obsolete or will PGI impliment some sort of conversion mechanic? will i be able to buy (with c-bills) a refit? oh and the clan tech isnt op if everyone can have it. will we see laser or missle boats? yes but we are already seeing that. will someone find a verry efficient load out?probably but anyone can have it. its not a secret as soon as you use it

I have to say that those who are worried about Clan tech breaking the game are silly. I know most of you hate to hear this but World of tanks is a great example of how the OP tanks, didnt wreck the games. Now While MWO will in my eyes BLOW WoTs away because well mechs are just better! The match making fits, Clan mechs will mostly end up fighting clan mechs, they will be in the pools of players to choose from and yeah you may see a whole team of IS and another team with 5 Omni mechs but, the rest of that team would be lights and crappy players more then likely. The systems being put in for matchmaking sound pretty good if all goes well so when it applys Omni it will mostly put them vs eachother. In WoTs Russian IS tanks IS-4 was hell to kill none of the German tanks had the speed, armor and damage that those things did. It seemed like every one was rolling in Tier 10s or 9s but when they got to work they moved it around were you could go in with a Tiger one and have fun without loosing your head to a IS-3 or above. Thats what I see.. so I dont worry about the future of the game all will work out.

Well see the omni mech later on thats a fact. I be more worried weather or not, there hardpoints will be omni or not. I bet will get mechs like the mad dog, mad cat, summoner ect, but there hardpoints will be fixed like the mechs we have now.

Also consider the fact that lorewise, an Omnimech is considerably more expensive than a battlemech of similar capability, even when the base tech is identical. (you're paying a premium for that modular tech.) An Atlas K7 costs like 15 million C-bills ingame, expect a Daishi to cost about 30 million. In addition, Clan tech may be better, but again, you should expect to pay a premium on both buying clan tech, as well as repairing it.

THat's what I suspect. True free placement of weapons won't be possible, with all the variants (Prime, Alpha, Beta, etc) that Omnis have, this would be the best compromise.

As for balancing, the likely manner is by using less clan mechs in a game than inner sphere mechs. 5 to 8 and 10 to 12 have been thrown around as numbers.

MW:Online will start receiving funds from me at the start of the Clan invasion. To those ******** about Clan Omnimechs being unbalanced can dry their tears on the fact that any weapon system with 'ER' or Pulse in its name generates a boatload of heat. Tactics and discipline of the pilot will win the day, not Alpha striking non-stop that I notice people constantly doing. OmniMech doesn't = Win Button

Maybe not.
But Endo Steel Internal Structure, Ferro-Fibrous Armor, XL Engine and Double Heat Sinks on a OmniMech?
If you're so fond of their technology that you wouldn't want to play without it, that's fine, but let's not pretend that the Clans were ever created with any semblance of balance in mind.

That said, and to actually answer the OP - the developers have stated that the Clans and their OmniMechs might eventually make it into the game, post-release, in maybe a year or so.
