In the upcoming months ill be building my first PC. I was wondering if you guy's could rate it.

First off its a kit.... so I don't kill myself trying to get all the right parts that work with each other.

KIT- http://www.newegg.co...st=Combo.789290

GPU- http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130604

CPU Heat sink - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835103065

total around 1.3k with win 7, anti virus and all that good stuff.

The kit looks solid

The GPU is alittle weak, I suggest going with atleast a GTX560 ti, 6950, or 7870/7850.

The heatsink is not the best for the money. You would be ALOT better off with the Cooler Master Hyper 212. Also, from reading it's reviews, seems the Zalman is difficult to mount on ASUS boards.

Go with a 2500k kit and spend the cash you save on a better video card, chances are you dont need a 2600k unless you are a pro overclocker or video. animation guy. Also while kits are convienent if you just take a little time you can snage each piece seperately and save even more money usually. But yeah other than that your fine.

Only took a quick peak, maybe someone else can find different, their 2500k bundles are so so, downsides were a 500gb HDD and a standard 560ti.

For a similar price as you listed above 1.3k.

Slightly less

Neither come with windows 7 so you'd have to add that on, Anti virus i would not be too concerned about, you can get Avast for free and is one of the best out there.

If 1.3k is your budget, i would probably go with the second option, use the remainder of your budget for a Solid State Drive and Win7 (and you'd still have some spare i think)
My only concern over link 2 is the GPU...i have never heard of galaxy.

I've heard of Galaxy. They do a custom multi-monitor thing for Nvidia cards and have decent cooling similar to Gigabyte's windforce cards.

question- would getting another 8 gigs of ram change anything? or is that just overkill?

It's overkill for gaming right now. You can always add more later.

Another question ;)- Should I use the thermal paste that comes with the aftermarket heat sink, or buy a good named brand one?

I recommend getting a good aftermarket TIM. I personally recommend GELID's GC-Extreme thermal paste.

Im not sure if thats actually your opinion or a joke :)

If thats your opinion you could not be further from the truth, alot of the free ones are better than the home user world wide corporations paid versions.

Agreed. I've never found the perfect free antivirus, but I've also found that most commercial AV programs aren't even as good as what I pick up for free for security.

In fact, when I'm helping less computer-literate people out with problems with their machines, half the time it's just clearing off some burdensome commercial AV program, usually bundled with their internet (Mcaffee is the worst; it puts computers into worse shape than many viruses).

This is actually fairly close to the computer I've recently put together. At the moment I'm running an i7 2600k on an Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 with crossfired Sapphire HD 6970s, 16 gbs ram (also corsair vengeance x4 gbs) and powered by a Corsair 850 Professional Gold. Right off the bat I can tell you that I haven't had any issues with it so far and it's run everything I've thrown at it, though right now my gaming doesn't go too far beyond World of Tanks and World of Warplanes. The 2600k comes with a pretty good heatsink fan which has lithium grease pre-applied. The only thing I would really do differently is invest in a bigger tower. Right now I have an Apevia X-Trooper and it's somewhat crowded between the two very large GPUs and a myriad of wiring. I'm not sure what the specs are on yours but it looks like a mid-sized, so that may be something you'll want to consider.

As for software, Microsoft is offering a free consumer preview for Windows 8 which isn't bad. It will probably be pulled sometime around October, but that gives you plenty of time to buy a copy of 7 or 8 when it's convenient. Malwarebytes is the best free antivirus that I know of. I trust it enough to run it on my computer. If you have any questions or if I forgot something just ask.

The 2600k's heatsink is not good! I did some minor testing with it before jumping up and overclocking at all can lead to some serious issues. Just a warning for folks considering this.

agreed, I have a 2600k myself. It's stock heatsink is not sufficent if OC'ing is planned. Personally, I wouldn't even suggest using turbo mode with a stock heatsink.

Damn straight it's not good! I don't know of anyone who's gone with the stock HSF on that thing. 3rd party cooling all the way.

When I do build this PC after like 3+ months, I think I want to SLI the GTX 560 ti. Would the 750w PSU that comes with that kit be enough power? Or would I have to upgrade that too for SLI?

I know I'm thinking way to far ahead when I don't even have the PC yet lol. :)

Im pretty sure the 750 watts will be enough. When you get the power supply see if there are 4 6pin power connectors. If there are 4 then you should have plenty of power to run 2 gfx cards

edit::Just checked the power suppy and it has the 4 6pin connectors you should be fine as far as power goes
