Well true, most Mercs are really just armies with money as their Lord, it directs them.

A more likely scenario is that after a month a "LoneWolf Collective" will occur, and the LoneWolfs that enjoy the other's company will accidently form a mercernary group when they weren't looking for one, and play with them.

And then become "not true mercenaries", apparently.

This topic went down a rather dark road, all I read from the OP was "I'm lone wolf because I like to have fun and not worry about being yelled at because we lost a match". It's a valid argument and I think MW:O is going to break a lot of those more stereotypical "clan" mentalities other games have with such solid emphasize on roles, lances and teamwork, but we would be deluding ourselves to think that every person who tries and plays MW:O is going to be like that. Dude wants to blow stuff up alone, I'm all for it, long as he knows which mechs are the enemy.

Yes, because in a Merc Company you will have to follow the Merc Commanders orders and deployment ideas, and LW don't answer to nobody amirite? *high five*.

As far as the Bounty Hunter is concerned, its not about following or not following orders. He will work with the team he drops with.

For the Bounty Hunter it's about being a true mercenary. Not being involved with the IS factions and their politics, and not being overly involved with Mercs (even if they are masquerading as "House units") and trying to defend their little fiefdoms on border skirmishes. The Bounty Hunter is a Lone Wolf Mercenary: He goes where the Payday is and his considerable skill will be paid heartily for. He will find other like minded Lone Wloves that he can "Trust" (trust is a relative term here) and they will rock.

I would agree - and welcome him to do whatever he pleases, in whatever manner he chooses. My beef was that this self proclaimed lone wolf sought us out, joined our website, filled out an application, then disappeared.

Then we find out through this post that he's lone wolfing without letting us know. We've had a roster spot filled that could have been given to someone else all this time. For the sake of privacy I wont post his application, but suffice to say between what he posted on our site, and what he posted here - it sounds rather contradictory...

Being lone in whole universe sucks. Getting pals behind your back is much better.

Some of us have tried to point out to the staunch "LONE WOLVZ FO LIFE!" folks that you can do the exact same style of play as a member of a faction. Repeatedly. But people don't seem to like the information or ignore it, and it gets on our nerves. Or at least mine.

Because true mercs don't follow anyone's orders! Except...the merc leadership...and the person paying them...

Wait those aren't true mercs - true mercs are lone gunmen that....do what exactly?

Whatever they want, and for the most money offered!

No, because Lone Wolves are not tied to one another like Mercs are. If the Bounty Hunters finds someone he likes to go on missions with, great. But neither Lone Wolf will have to go fight for the same employer at the same time and many times be on opposites sides of the fence.

The Bounty Hunter is seeing a disturbing pattern he does not like.........

It seems the only real Mercenaries in the game will be the Lonewolfs.

Lone wolf only follows orders for the pay, its just business

I play several games that encourage/reward teamplay. Personally, I enjoy a rather rigid structure where I form a cog within a much larger machine. It takes discipline to follow 'orders' and help make the strategy/tactics work, and it is very satisfying when it does.

There is no "I" in "team"....

Unfortunatly in MWO, it doesn't appear that Lone Wolves will be able to take contracts or go on missions. At least not from the information we've learned. And there is a member requirement in order to form a Merc unit so that you CAN take contracts.

Right now I'm a lone wolf primarily because I don't know what faction I want to support, or what merc company to join. A LoneWolf is not necessarily reckless, for some it can be the opposite. Be more selective, and honestly, a good LoneWolf will have to be more adaptable in group scenarios or he will get put on many a "black List" of factions/merc companies.

I see what happened - I quoted you and hit submit accidentally before writing a follow up. It has text now - so no I wasn't being lazy.

The Bounty Hunter Guesses his point is being missed and maybe he is not being clear.

To the Bounty Hunter, Mercs in this game do not seem to be mercs. Half of the "Merc Units" here are affiliated with a house. The Robinson Rangers are one example (nothing against you fine warriors). They will start the game, register themselves as group, a Merc Group, then go about their business of exclusively defending and attacking on behalf of their house (correct the Bounty Hunter if he is wrong folks). He doesn't think they would ever take a contract with House Liao as the Robinson Rangers.

The Bounty Hunter could be reading the tea leaves wrong, but in the end, the only real mercs will be Lone Wolves and a few non-affiliated mercs (but even they will be worried about their little fiefdoms).

Perhaps the Bounty Hunter has strayed off topic.....

oh okay, well sorry about that listless, and I can sympathize with you about him filling out an application with no intention of joining, that's beyond frustrating. Also, I meant that "just being lazy" comment to sound more light-hearted and not facetious, not that it matters I guess, just wanted to clarify.

Do you speak in the 3rd person in real life as well or just forums? Sarriss is just wondering.

No you are spot on bounty hunter. However, we are not attempting to masquerade as a merc company. The only reason we are a merc unit, is due to the command and control it offers in comparison to the way the factions are set up currently. We would have no control over leadership, finances, deployments etc if we were a house unit. Unless this changes, we will be as Bounty Hunter has described.

In addition, I would say that his overall point is correct as well. The majority of mercs have biases that prevent them from being completely mercenary. The point I was arguing against was that true mercs can't/won't take orders of any kind.

No worries Sarriss - it's the internet and it happens. Thanks for taking the time to clarify though
