But maybe I can start caring again if there's a chance the Smoke Jaguars aren't so much dust...
Well, what people tend to miss is the fact that the word "annihilate" means "completely destroyed"....as in....NO survivors, NO remnants, NOTHING.

The FACT ALONE that the Streaking Mist (a Smoke Jaguar WARSHIP...an entire WARSHIP) survived means that SOME (possibly many) Jaguars survived. Did LOTS of Jaguars die in Bulldog/Serpent? Absolutely. Did ALL the Jaguars die in Bulldog/Serpent? Absolutely NOT. (Only the involvement of Chuck Norris would have made that possible). Otherwise cases like the Streaking Mist and numerous other unknown/unwritten/unconfirmed survivors that later became the Fidelis in the Dark Age storyline (3100+ year wise in BattleTech lore) would simply not be. And the fact that the Fidelis (aka the Smoke Jaguar survivors) are later freed from service to The Republic 21+ years later means a world of possibilities exist for the Jaguars/Fidelis to continue in the storyline and reestablish themselves wherever they choose to go.
If you haven't already or are unfamiliar with the Dark Age series ZRO Zimm, I would HIGHLY recommend the Dark Age novel
Surrender Your Dreams by Blaine Lee Pardoe (Amazon would be your best bet for finding it). Even if the Dark Age series is terrible (as most people here tend to say despite their love for Catalyst) it can be an interesting read all around. There are other Dark Age books as well but as far as the Jaguars are concerned Surrender Your Dreams is THE recommended book.
So don't worry and don't listen to the haters out there, the future of the Smoke Jaguar is bright indeed. The Smoke Jaguar always survives in one form or another.
