Right now these two amounts are rounded up to the nearest 0.5 tons.

While this may have made some sense when the minimum tonnage of an item was 0.5 tons, in MWO this is not the case.

Armour is bought in 0.2 ton lots in MWO
The Clan Machine Gun will be 0.25 tons.

The real problem though is tonnage wastage.

On a Commando with Endo-steel structure, and a 200XL engine, this wastage is 0.5 tons, 2% of mech mass. This is the difference between a small and a medium laser, or a small laser itself. While heavier mechs see a far lesser proportion of tonnage wasted, the extra 0.25 tons could still be used to buy armour where there is an uneven amount.

We have seen speeds depart, as there was no reason to force the equal divisor rule from tabletop, surely this is similar.

This is mostly an issue for lighter mechs like the Commando and upcoming Flea, but affect any uneven amount.

ADDED: You could also change armour to 0.25 lots of 8 points too, rather than the uneven progression you currently have.
