But I will anyway.
Yes, you will be discriminated against, in every possible way. By everyone. For no reason. Because that's the kind of people we are, all of us.

Check this out, if you want to know how one of the big players in the business got treated: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Wolf's_Dragoons
And keep in mind this is a top notch mercenary group, not a single individual merc. And if they got it bad already, despite all their advantages ...

Depends... in games like Counterstrike you have the chance to pick and choose where you play and who you play with.... the clan bias thing doesn't matter so much there. In Perpetuum Online however, the only other(Non-BT) big robot fighting MMO i've played, the clan aspect is everything. One concern I have is that the clan thing will become the be all and end all in the game and individuals will become a second class in the gmae world.

As far as the actual game goes, you will have to build faction with the houses or merc units to gain special toys that the devs havnt told us what they are (my money is on house specific mechs and losttech weapons) just like the rest of us.

If you are not, I will shoot you myself.
Being a lone wolf, merc or Davion doesn't matter. The weak will be fodder for the strong.

As a lone wolf bouncing from game to game, faction to faction, no one group is going to get to know/respect you as a player as much as they would if they saw you frequently.
If you play poorly, even if it's just a fluke, be sure that the 9 faction members who lost the round along side you will blame the 3 lone wolf players for the loss. If you play well, no one will know you well enough to think it necessary to pat you on the back and say good job.
Obviously this isn't going to be 100% true 100% of the time, but anyone who has been around online games for a while can see the trend.

If you affiliate your unit with a particualar house as many merc units do, this relationship should change for the better.

You will be assimilated.
Resistance is futile.
Your distinctiveness will be added to our own.

OK, enough of that. If you go read the dev blogs, etc., you will see that you can play as a mercenary.
That's not to say that everyone will shower you with hugs and kisses. In an online community of this size, you will encounter pretty much all types of behavior. Most will probably be easy enough to get along with, but you should also steel yourself for encounters with unpleasant individuals (or even groups). Just remember, it's a game. We're talking pixels on your screen, and bits in a database.
If it's not messing with your wallet, your dinner, or your sex life... it's probably not worth getting upset about.
