I now play MWO with Windos 8.1 on a MacBookPro9,1 with up to 60 fps in the native resolution of my display :D

I currently run MWO in Bootcamp (Windows 7) on a 15" MacBook Pro with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1333 DDR3 RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M w/ 256 MB VRAM. It runs in 1280x800 resolution on the lowest settings ok; I get about 15-20 FPS usually but I also get a lot of crashing to desktop.

I'm looking at getting a new machine and upgrading my MacBook is one of the options; there's a 15" machine with a 2.6 GHz Quad i7 and a GT 650M w/ 1 GB VRAM, or there's a 17" 2.2 GHz Quad i7 with a Radeon HD 6750M w/ 1 GB. Of course I I could just keep my current machine which works fine for my work and get a cheap gaming PC that'll run MWO, but I'm on the fence. What do you guys think? It looks like some of you run the game fine on machines with specs like these...

Under Bootcamp my working station give my up to 140fps.
2x Intel Xeon X5690
64Gb ECC Ram
SataSSD with Windows 7 on it
GeForce 780 3Gb
But some times my fps go down for 25/20 for a second, and that P&%^& me off

Same setup, perfect game experience, haters gonna hate.

What settings are you on?

edit :

Mine is
27" imac (2012 ver)
i5-2400 (3.1ghz), 12gb ram, AMD 6900M,
Bootcamped Windows 7

Settings :
1280 x 720 @ medium settings (with post processing and AA off, weapon glow turned off)

Framerate : 40-50fps, sometimes dipping to 20-ish when there's a lot of stuff going on (e.g. eating LRM 40s like spaghetti)

It runs smoothly on High settings on my late-2012 iMac 27" (specs below), under Windows 7 in Bootcamp, but it KEEPS CRASHING.

Some days I get 3-6 games without problems in a row, but sometimes I get 5 mechs locked up when I freeze/crash upon launching a drop. Especially annoying when I actually have groupmates.

iMac 27" (late-2012 model)
Max CPU (3.4 GHz i7)
24GB RAM (2x4GB + 2x8GB)
Max Graphics (GTX 680MX 2GB)
3TB Fusion Drive

I run the game usually in Medium settings & 2560x1440, but High settings have worked too. Very smooth as long as I don't crash after clicking Launch, before the Ready screen appears.

Mind you, this machine was bought for photo-editing work, and I haven't had a Windows PC for years. I'm now considering getting a PC desktop instead just for this game because the crash issue is frustrating, and frankly not worth activating my Premium Time for.

I am hoping with the introduction of UI2.0, and subsequently DX11, the issue would go away.

ROFL if you think a 680MOBILE GPU runs "smooth" on 1440P or even 1080p Display. This game on highly OC'd Titan doesn't "run smooth" LOL. Anyway just had to laugh at ya.

Apple, Eww gross.

Wow, pointless troll bait. That + you just got called out on it by a PC enthusiast that doesn't necessarily disagree with your implied views about gaming on mac.

I get 80+ frames on my stock clocked [but modified fan profile] GTX 780 ti, maybe you're LOSING performance with too high an overclock? I hear this is common with dynamically clocked cards such as the 780 ti and Titan....

And for the other part of that, the GTX 765m in the Razer Blade pro handles MwO @ 40-60 FPS @ 1080 with just about everything maxed, and the 680MX has a HUGE performance lead over THAT card. it's not inconceivable that it could do 2560 x 1440 @ medium.

As for the crashing, have you downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia? It also wouldn't hurt, if you haven't, to go around and update ALL your drivers, from audio to chipset via the web. . . if you haven't yet. Also make sure power profile is set to high performance, and download a temperature monitoring software like HwMonitor [it SHOULD work for mac. . though I've never tried it] and make sure you're not pushing close to dangerous thermals. 90c + is pushing it, 100 or 105c should be thermal throttling. I'd probably call roughly similar numbers for the GPU. Yea, they CAN survive over 96c, but some cards just get unstable and lose it at those temps. [675m, I'm looking @ YOU] /Fermi ><

If you're having heat issues, what we USED to do back in the day was load into OS/X, set a high rpm fan profile with SMC fan control, and then do a RESTART [not a shutdown, just a soft reboot] and load into windows. The fan profile SHOULD stick [it used to] which should help alleviate any heat issues you may be experiencing.

I'm curious, could a simple program on the Windows partition not be used to set fanspeeds? I really don't know much about how Bootcamp does things, but surely something like speedfan would have access to the fan speeds. I mean, Mac or PC, it's all just PC motherboards with PC hardware attached.

You'd THINK, and I don't know about NOW, but back several years ago it wouldn't. Something about the way it's controlled in EFI

http://forum.noteboo...-boot-camp.html

Looks like it could be possible, but I don't have any easy way to test it [translation: I'm curious, but not so curious as to overcome my inherent laziness  ]

Drivers are all update, I've read elsewhere on this forum that people have been having crashes with the latest nVidia patch and recommended a roll-back. But I haven't done so yet.

I run D3 & SC2 in OS X (cos Blizzard had the resources to code/port it to Mac), on high, but not highest settings, and it doesn't get as hot, usually only up to 70-80's for the CPU & GPU.

In Boot Camp running COD Ghost, it goes to 70-80c on medium-high.

In Boot Camp running MWO, it goes to 85C in the CPU and 91-93C for the GPU, whether or not I'm in the default Medium or High settings/ (damage glow on, V-Sync off).

Maybe the code is not as efficient as other games?

But also, I don't get crashes even when it stays hot for a few games. Seems to be a random thing because whenever I crash, it's always only MWO, and always just before the Ready screen shows after Launch. From my limited PC knowledge, I don't think this is a CPU/GPU overheat problem kinda crash. I hope I'm not wrong.

Thanks for those links, looked into it and got CPUID (was using SpeedFan, but it couldn't fully detect drivers on the latest iMacs, it seems). Lubbo Fan sadly was only written for MBPs, and cranked the fans to max settings making quite the noise, and wouldn't slow down even after closing the app, until I rebooted. Don't wanna over-stress the fan on this machine...

So yeah, my hopes are that it's some inefficient code in the game, because Support said they've passed my log files onto the devs to look into, but I wouldn't expect solving Mac-related bugs/crashes to be specifically high on their debug list.

Time to build a new PC? Just for gaming? I hate to clog up my desk further when I have such a streamlined 27" iMac sitting there only.....

First stop for me would be to use a can of compressed air almost entirely.....MOAR is better, to clean out all possible dust clumps or heatsyncs and fans/screens/(radiators in my case). be overly ambitious as well........all possible dust, Could even be PSU heating up from blockage allowing surges.....or Vdrop just enough to cause crash/lockup.......
Than look into drivers.........

Actually I had on-site service to exchange the display module on it, 'cause it had a slight corner shadowing, apparently from LG's factory chemical contamination (says the tech), and it was pretty clean even after a year. But I had a spray already with compressed air, so it definitely wasn't clogged up.

Ran last night and yes, tracked GPU up to 86 celcius max, CPU up to 93 celcius. Has any Mac/bootcamp users tried rolling back the nVidia drivers so far?
