I just read another post from another player who claims to be "in the gaming industry."

By my count, that makes four hundred and twenty seven people (so far) on these forums claiming that their feedback was more interesting, more relevant, and more important than the average player's feedback, because they are "in the gaming industry."

That really worries me, because it probably represents 75% of the people who are actually "in the gaming industry." So if everyone in the industry is here, playing Mechwarrior and posting (lots and lots of) comments, who is making all the other games? I foresee a drought in new titles next year. In fact, now that I think about it, this may explain the problem with HL3.

But just in case all those claims are true, I also wanted to toss out a few observations that I think all the "gaming industry insiders" should keep in mind.

[REDACTED]

Seriously. These are not the Call of Duty forums, and these are not the Madden 2013 forums. These are Mechwarrior forums, so [REDACTED]. Most of us have professions, careers of our own, wives and kids and such.

So when you say you're "in the gaming industry", we know that means 2 things. [REDACTED]

[REDACTED] If your criticism or ideas are valid, they will get traction. If not, they won't. Claiming you're "in the gaming industry" adds nothing to the conversation, and doesn't help make your case. [REDACTED]

Why is this in Beta discussion?

I am more concerned with the misappropriation of board resources! :P

Ouch,
More importantly this game isn't made for the people "in the gaming industry", its being made for the thousands of rabid MW fans that have amassed over the years.

Technically since we all are participating in Beta, we are all involved in the gaming industry.

Have you read the "there should be a communal bank so we can help each other pay repair and rearm costs" thread?
Sorry, but that thread shows that there really are a lot of morons on this forum.

I have never made the claim, but since you brought it up, I worked in the gaming industry for over 10 years. :P

Having said that, you are mostly right, as it does not necessarily give you any better insight into what is going on.

But having said that, about having said that, I will say that working for Sierra On-line for a decade felt more like 10 years in a playground rather than going to work.

More pompous talking down to people who play games you think you're "too good" to play. [REDACTED]

Technically, everybody who bought goldtags is in the gaming industry now.
You know, getting credit for the game, and everything.

I take people who say "I been doing X for this long" or "I know what I am talking about because I am a programmer, look at my credentials" with a grain of salt. I could tell you all I pilot 737's for a living and look up a bunch of important sounding things on wikipedia to validate my point, when in reality I am a welder/Draftsman...or am I?

Technically, anyone who bought MC and/or Founder Packages is in the gaming industry.

I'm not in the gaming industry. But I did spend a night at a Holiday Inn.

And I miss Sierra as well. Larry Suit Larry, King's Quest, Space Quest. I wish someone would retro those games so I could play them on my tablet or Windows 7 computer.

I think Call of Duty is a game played a lot by Military folk who would definitely be offended being called illiterate.

That's true, but your OP didn't clarify dismissing them on the grounds of whether or not they're telling the truth. You in fact specifically mentioned not caring whether they're actually in the gaming industry.

On top of that, being in the gaming industry does actually give you a little bit of insight into how games are developed, what kinds of demands are simply infeasible and what kind of progress or development cycle you can expect. It also helps you better identify what might be causing some issues, and give that insight to others. I don't think for a second that any of the "derp I'm a games industry duder" know better than PGI, but I also wouldn't dismiss their input out of hand simply because you don't like other people having more valuable input than your own.

Im actually in the modeling industry, I get tons of women, and I have a super nice house, and drive a Ferrari. You're just jealous because you aren't as cool as me. Also, I have a doctorate in Astrophysics, played for the Lakers for 6 years, and won the Newberry honor award and Pulitzer prize for my recent publishing in the New York Times.

We all know you're a welder-pilot, able to not only post on this board but repair a plane in flight all the while fighting the space-commi-nazzis

which of course gives you all the credibility you need to talk about game development :P
