So how are the controls in game? I played Mech Warrior 4 : Mercenaries for a bit, actually still have it installed on my PC and the controls on there seem pretty clunky. It doesn't use the same setup for Mech Warrior Online does it?

If you expect typical fps controls, then these will be quite clunky. But that makes sense as you are piloting a giant clunky walking machine.

What I mean is, for MW4 I use the mouse to turn my mech, left click to fire selected weapon group and right click to turn my torso. Then the 1-0 are the acceleration buttons and so forth. Is it the same in MWO?

Best way at the moment is to use keyboard and mouse. basic awsd for movement and then torso twist and torso up and down with mouse. The "o" crosshair are your arms aim the "+" is your torso aim. make sure you know where your thermal, zoom, alpha strikes are and you are set to go.

to group weponds, use the arrow keys, and to select/deslect a wepond into a group press right Ctrl. Make sure to return the highlighted section back to group 1 wepond 1 , or the highlighted group will fire....

Have fun. let me know if you need any help.

don't worry, it's almost the same. difference only the aiming (using hand mounted or torso mounted weapons). when you aim at something, the hand mounted weapons are faster then the torso mounted weapons, but they will converge eventually at a single point.

Is there an ingame tutorial?
I have not played this kind of game in years, and I am getting toasted before I have enough time to get my bearings.
Thanks.

There isnt an in game tutorial yet, it is still being created. But, if you download team speak and get on the unofficial game server there is an educational channel. The people in this channel are great and will help you out allot. If you cant find anyone else, drop into the Steeles 1st Legion of Thunder Merc group and someone there will usually be available to help you out. Good luck and see you dirstside.

I can't get the backspace to do the chain fire, am I doing something wrong?

I've tried it with a weapons group assigned, I've also tried it when I have not weapon group assigned. It doesn't seem to work.

HELP!!! heat is killing me.
