Seems pretty closely based on the book as far as I can tell from the dialog there. I read the book a few months ago and it seems like it might be pretty close.

This is what I saw almost instantly that will make it not closely based on the book.

The gun: Rico (I'm guessing) was using flame throwers during that mission, not what looks like an assault rifle.

The website says that this is just the next installment in the movie series. The description of the film's story doesn't resemble anything from the book.

Starship Troopers was an amazing book, and I was not amused at what Hollywood did to it. I am less than enthused with yet another movie, regardless of how pretty it looks.

ah, yes, that old film technique of reading the first third of the novel, getting bored, and then making a film about it (glares at Paul Verhoeven). The first film was an interesting satire if you ignore the title, and the second two were garbage. Not much hope for another one here.

Yeah this a orginal story set in the Starship Troopers universe,or at least a adaption of it.

" A distant Federation outpost Fort Casey comes under attack by bugs. The team on the fast attack ship Alesia is assigned to help the Starship John A. Warden stationed in Fort Casey evacuate along with the survivors and bring military intelligence safely back to Earth. Carl Jenkins, now ministry of Paranormal Warfare, takes the starship on a clandestine mission before its rendezvous with the Alesia and goes missing in the nebula. Now, the battle-hardened troopers are charged with a rescue mission that may lead to a much more sinister consequence than they ever could have imagined..."

It looks awesome, and no harshing on the first movie, it was amazing (Starship Troopers is supposed to be semi-satirical)

Okay, if it doesn't have the most terrifying powered armor imaginable flinging tacnukes like machinegun ammunition, it isn't anything like the book.

MI powered armor from the book is VERY terrifying.

Would you like to know more?

Eh, not really. Loved the first movie, as was pointed out, for it's interesting satire and cornballness. It wasn't the book though. They should reboot the franchise and do it properly.

The whole purpose to the book was about a man who questioned his country and their reasonings and like every soldier who actually fights in our military today learns that the reason you fight isn't for politics or religion, or any sort of beliefs. It is for your fellow brothers in the trenches with you. Which is what Jonny Rico learned.

The simple fact that you cited the first Starship Troopers film as "good" makes me cringe... Doesn't anyone read anymore? ITS A NOVEL! One of the most highly regarded classic SciFi novels of all time!

The first movie was a fine exposition of MOAR DAKKA. Not a faithful adaptation of the book, but so what? It had shooting, occasional boobies, and shooting.
As far as mindless entertainment goes, not bad.

well the 1st movie had gore of the book(and uncessesary ammounts of nudity, Thus Drill Sergeant Zim), STC had the tech from the book(The Series introduted the Marauder Power Armors and more vehicles and bugs, thus the Skinnies and the Rambo Drill Sergeant Zim), and ST OVA had the power armor of the book, and followed the begginning of the story(and a black bad@ss version of Drill Sergeant Zim)

This new one will be the mix of these 3 and the Book itself, ignoring completely the last 2 moves who sucked!

well honestly in the novel the only time I remember rico having nukes was in the "terror raid" and he only had 3 but he used all 3 and as I remember it 1 of the 3 got used on the cities water treatment plant.... not a very nice "present" for the city.

most of the damage was things like the Y launchers fire bombs which were basically incindaries, he also tossed a "30 second bomb" into the crowded building, etc

oh and one note on the biggest issue I had with the movie.... power armor does NOT equal flack gear

On its own its a good movie, but compared to the book, and some other things, its not good at all. My father disliked, and I agree with him, the fact that it is largely unrelated to the book, no power armor, different story, etc. however, one of the the biggest things he hated is the federation symbol, and the general uniform of the soldiers. It was that of the Nazi's in WW2, the federation symbol looked like that of the nazi symbol. As a Marine, he deeply despised this. So I hope this movie goes away from that and more towards the book / animated series.

If all they change is the MI's main weapon then we'll be in good shape. I like that the trailer at least started out with a quote from the book, and we have power armor. My hopes are high.

I liked the first movie well enough. I think it got the Bugs right (even the awesome animated series kept them the same) and carried over the satire well. The rest is flawed but still enjoyable. Nothing beats the book though.
