Well Avenger class Dropships often housed a Naval weapon such as a Naval PPC which were incapable of firing in atmosphere from what I can remember from battlespace rules set. Now the Avenger was a pretty rare ship so seeing these in mass is highly unlikely and Unlike the video games Destroying a dropship was a huge deal as the ability to create more was Highly limited. Thus the Avengers saw limited use there are other dropships with mounted artillery pieces in the nose of the ship designed to lend mech units they are transporting command and artillery support. How this would be reconized in the game is anyones guess.

Not often, and not in this era at all. Still lots of firepower however. They can't (Dropships) house a Naval weapon, though some subcapital weapons are available in about 20 years to them.

Ezekial, Were did you get that info from? I know a Fortress carries a Long Tom Artillery Piece. Anyone know of any other Dropships that carry any kind of artillery?

"The Fortress is noted for its heavy armament and protection, being as heavily armored as the larger Overlord and better armed. The heavy weapons of this load out are the two massive AC/20s, six PPCs, four LRM-20s and eight Large Lasers. These impressive weapons are backed up by five lighter AC/5s, six SRM-6s, four LRM-10s, and sixteen Medium Lasers. The majority of this weaponry is located around the sides of the ship, providing immediate support against any enemy units within the landing area. The capstone of this impressive load-out though is a weapon rarely seen on DropShips: the massive Long Tom Artillery Piece, mounted in the ship's nose. The Long Tom allows the Fortress to back up it's battalion no matter where they are, though it can only be used when the ship is grounded. Fully loaded the Fortress carries twenty-five tons of ammo for the Long Tom, along with five tons each for its AC/5s and AC/20s, sixteen tons for the LRMs and four tons for the SRMs."

I'm not sure what the BattleSpace rules for this were, but under the current ruleset Dropships can't carry Naval PPCs, or any other kind of full-scale capital weapon except for missiles. There are Sub-Capital weapons which fit on DropShips, but they only get introduced in 3073 and there's no Sub-Capital PPC. In either case there's no variant of the Avenger mounting Capital or Sub-Capital weapons that I'm aware of at all.

Oh, and Naval PPCs can fire in atmosphere.
