I dont know much about the mechwarrior universe and I just joined yesterday so I'm sorry if this topic has already been discussed. However I was curious if anyone knew if you'd be able to build your own mech from the ground up, I've already seen things like customizing weapons and the like that but I wasn't sure if it'd go beyond that like starting with a whole new chassis and working up from there. If not I think it'd be a great idea, I always wanted to play Chromehounds because of the customization factor but they didnt make it for PC. I'm excited for this game either way and can't wait for the beta!

Building your own custom mech?

Not much official word on 'mechlab for now (other than that there will be hardpoints as in MW4 I think). However, next month will be the mechlab month, so more info will be released shortly.
Heavy visual customization (other than weapons switching based on loadout) is no-no I'd say, much less building an entire new look. In TT and in some previous BT games (MW2:Mercs in particular) you could do whole lot of customization though. Even to the point that the 'mech was basically only tonnage and skin.
Personally I'm hoping they keep the customization options to minimum to preserve uniqueness of the canon loadouts.

You will not be able to create mechs that are new to the Mechwarrior universe. My understanding is that the mechlab will be reminiscent of the one used for Mechwarrior 4. However different varients of the same mech will have different hard points. Just another reason to COLLECT THEM ALL !$!$!$
and i was worried I wouldn't be able to find a way to shovel my money at these guys!

Welcome to the forums Polk738!
As the other posters commented, there will be a 'mechlab to customize your 'mech to some degree. We are unsure of to what extent at this point.
Canonically Battlemechs where incredibly complex machines that were difficult to maintain and upgrade. Building one from the ground up took resources that will probably be beyond even the most wealthy of mercenary groups or house units. New 'mechs do get introduced slowly over the next few years, however, they are already established in the canon.
Great idea, and it would be cool, however, it doesnt really fit the Universe.
If you haven't already there is a great thread with alot of information you can checkout here... http://mwomercs.com/...-pretty-please/
Cheers

Most people here would throw a big fit if you could build your own mech. The developers might quote "balancing issues" or "desire to stay true to the battletek universe" as the reason why you can't build your own, but the real reason is that most people on this forum would rage quit instantly and the game would be a commercial failure.
It's not a bad idea. But everything would have to be a lot more generalized graphically, and the mechs would end up looking a lot less cool and unique.
Best to just walk away from this topic before you get shot.

lol understood, like I said I never played mechwarrior so I don't understand the universe or the fanbase but I do think it would be a really cool idea to bring to the multi-player with that amount of customization, I really don't understand why Chromehounds wasn't more popular in that aspect-the customization was immense with that game it basically made you feel like an engineer. anyway thanks for the welcome glad to be here

I hope something like that is eventually implimented into the game. I have been playing mechwarrior and battletech for over 18 years and im not talkin video games im talkin table top. I have been designing mechs before I knew how to work a computer so yeah I think that kind of thing would be a blast for someone like me.

I agree with you Ezekial. To customize your Mech would be the beez kneez. What makes most MMO's like old Everquest, WOW and table top games like CAR WARS, Battletech was the ability to make that unique that was yours regardless of the limited arsenal at your disposal in the above mentioned games. You scavenged the battlefields VS mobs, bosses or other vehicles. Added to your cheap armor and weapons, and made it your own. Its not what you buy with c-bills (although sometimes it helps for repair of gyros, engines, replacement armor, etc.) but its what you earn on the field of battle. The AC 20 or Large lazer you earned from the kill. You didnt have magic shops that followed you around space to buy what you needed for the next battle. You had what you pulled onto your pickup dropship and your personal mech lab. If you were lucky enough to survive enough battles and salvage enough loot, you could make a mech that was yours, to be proud of.
