Don't be like Planetside please!

If anyone working on MWO sees this please don't be stingy with beta keys like Sony, and more specifically the Planetside 2 team. I've been waiting for months to get into Planetside. I have one friend that got in by paying Sony for the $40 starter pack. But I think they are making a BIG mistake that I hope you are able to avoid. I totally understand opening up 'closed' beta to people that are very eager to play by letting them pay. But you are going to miss a lot of early adopters like myself that preach to their friends about how they 'gotta play this new game'. With planetside, my one friend that got into the beta told me they like the game but probably wont play it much with the large amount of competition out there, and the fact that none of his other friends play it. I kinda feel so slighted by Sony that frankly I don't give a damn about Planetside any more. I'll stick to the games that include the people I love to game with.
This is where MWO can make a difference. Let loose your keys, get people talking about your game! We shall see what ends up happening, but I get the feeling that its going to be another wait until the full release because of this greed. I also understand that servers, bandwidth, and etc are reasons that you can't completely open it up, but to the people who registered I wouldn't keep them waiting long. Key point, Hawken is coming out right at the same time. I've gotten into their Beta, as have my friends, we LOVE the game and will be playing it for some time. I would love to give MWO a spin but CANT just yet....
At any given time on Steam, you have +100k people playing TF2, 100+ playing CS/GO/1.6, tens of thousands playing Portal 2. Valve has never been slingy with beta access and the like. Please see: the wild success of DOTA 2 if you need an idea of a successful beta. I would love to see MWO follow a similar path and see 100k concurrents making a great matchmaking community.
Long and short. Don't be greedy like Sony, be like Valve. If you do I suspect you will end up with the 3 key things make up a successful game. The player community and a solid game, and all the money.

In 30 years, I think I might have purchased around 278 computer games, how did you accumulate so many on Steam? Have you actually played them all?

Trust me... they aren't anything close to the BS that is SOE.

Unfortunately, open beta was delayed so partner sites weren't given sufficient keys.
you can still register on mwomercs.com and fill out all the Beta questionairre to become PENDING and you can still be added to the game without finding a promotional key.

Friend huh? They've given out extra keys to beta testers to give out. Honestly I don't really see Planetside 2 as having any real competition either. The way that game moves there really isn't anything that matches in the FPS market beyond the small basics. I can understand mostly playing games with friends, they're often a bit more fun that way, though PS2, like this, are both free. If they're unwilling to download a free game well...tis just sad. I thought that was one of the huge perks to the F2P concept, if I found something I liked everyone could join in without having to buy anything.
Either way, in the grand scheme, closed beta keys for you to hype up the game are silly. It's more for the testing, the game will be released anyway and then you nor your friends will have to wait to get into any exclusive club to play.
So far I'm the only kid on my block into this beta an you know what? Don't really care. Because I'm going to annoy my friends to no end until they download the client when the doors open.

Uh...cool story bro?
Played PS2 and while they are money grubbing I have no problem forking over a one time 40 dollar deal to get extra stuff (that can be unlocked for free) and I payed for founders here. Is it me being swindled? I don't think so because I get to help fund both games and have a voice(while limited it is) in the design of the game. I'm kinda glad the didn't follow your "fool proof" success plan because there aren't as many trolls who want to be catered to because they are a beautiful pwn flake and when I get killed it's obviously because of the game being stupid. And then they wish to screw the game up for us who will play it for years to come. So honestly I hope more companies follow this model of MWO and Planetside 2. Especially for PS2 because while the original was amazing I'm even more thoroughly impressed by the sequel. So if my money goes to make an amazing game that has had a large number of people like myself pay to get access and volunteer our time to help make it better, I'm very much on board.

I would check with Sony on that if you haven't but the game's doors will be open in a month anyway.
I agree the social media thing is annoying, though they have done none of the bizarre things you mention here and Sony isn't even doing that. Yeah they took the Founder concept too, but you're not paying to get into the game, because that's just stupid. The games are both free the second the doors go open. You really just get perks and to see the game at an early state. So while they aren't offering that you don't have to do anything weird to get in here. In fact in you just wait a bit you'll be able to play it anyway. Beta key nao or not.

Regarding PS2, i know what you mean about SOE, i signed up for that about 6months ago, i refused to go begging on their twitter feed like some many others trolling for a key. and finally got one of the extra keys a guild member received. out of 18 people in guild that signed up to PS2 only 5 got keys but they got 2 keys (one for them one for a friend). And to be honest i'm not impressed with it so far - give me a huge fecking Mech anyday
