System specs can and will change so I can't really provide a baseline for now, as Bryan mentioned we are working with Nvidia so if you have a system that supports Nvidia 3D Vision you should be good to go.

The only question I would ask is: Would I have to wear those stupid glasses to see it? Probably...

Because I hate having to wear those stupid uncomfortable 3D glasses over my normal ones.

Go for polarisation (glasses are usually very light and big, and there even are clips to use on other glasses) instead.
This might require extra drivers, depending on the hardware you use.
Some monitors come with their own drivers, or generally there's: http://www.iz3d.com/

Yeah, reread my post and changed it to "Unless it's true 3D (e.g. holographic) or as long as I can play on a normal screen, I don't care.", which makes a lot more sense.

I, for one, support the praise for polarisation as the superior technology, although I don't understand (on an emotional level) the current hype for 3D.

Being a proud owner of a 3DS, I'd point out that the glasses-free technology used there also has it's flaws. Images don't 'pop out' as much as the screen looks like a diorama. Also, the technology (in my case) strains my eyes far more than a 3D movie does. I usually turn the 3D off with the 3DS, it's got plenty of other features that make it a great handheld system.

Your comment "What I like about it the most is the sense of separation it gives you of the elements of the HUD that are intended to be on the pilots visor from those that are in the cockpit." I am a bit unsure about. Are you suggesting the "visor elements" are a part of the "free look" technology being developed by the MWO team?
Can you provide a visual sample of this?

I have glasses for both the blue/red one and the newer one used in cinemas. Problem with the former one is the destruction of colors and the latter has higher HW requirements by the way you need special glasses (the easiest part) a special monitor and graphics card.

But gaming with them? No way.
It's really straining on the eyes to watch something with those glasses.
You don't really need a "special" graphics card. Just one, which is fast enough (stereoscopic 3D requires more power).
@Exilyth
I don't really see a big hype about 3D. It's just more common nowadays and so it's one of the marketing arguments used (ok, maybe the film industry is hyping it a bit to get people back into the cinema).
Anyways I think it's good to push the development in that sector. It's not like 3D would make sense for everything, but some games just get a whole new dimension in 3D.
I couldn't care less about films in 3D.
Documentaries like planet earth? --> YES PLEASE! (and they should also be in 60fps!!!)
P**n? --> Can't wait to see one in 3D. =D
Movies, etc.? --> Doesn't have to be (for me).
For games it's similar.
Who needs Sims or Civilization in 3D?
But Racing simulations on the other hand are just incredible in 3D (even better together with Eyefinity or something similar).
It's really a day and night difference.
MWO -I think- will profit from 3D quite a bit.
The feeling to see the distance from your cockpit interior to the outside, seeing how far away the ground is ... might give a lot better feeling of sitting in a giant machine.
Would I actually use it in competative play? Dunno. We have to see, if it's cool or if you're better without it.

ASUS VG278H 27"
GeForce 680 GTX
3D Vision 2
for me its like the jump from b/w to color
when a game supports 3D correctly like Batman, Trine2 and other games,.. you can play in 3D mode for like 4 hours or longer without any tiredness of your eyes..
i really hope MWO will get 3D Vision Ready status!
cant wait for it.. otherwise in 2D iam not sure about buying/playing it at all.

Also please make the game work with Anaglyph red/cyan. Everyone can use Anaglyph, you just need the drivers and a $2 set of red/cyan glasses from ebay.

I'm sure for many it will be personal preference but hopefully whether you want 3D or don't you'll find we're catering to as many options as we reasonably can. Some will be more interested in a particular controller, or graphics feature etc. if it's popular enough and makes sense for the game we want to do our best to ensure everyone can play our game the way they want to.
To get a sense of the 3D seperation Mattew was talking about, If you watched Avatar in 3D, while during the video Log/diary section you see the text as floating closer to you, that's the effect that will be for the HUD element
