Do you think we could get an "Unseen Speculation" thread stickied or something, so there won't be a new Unseen thread popping up every time the last Unseen thread goes off the first page of General Discussion?

I find it sad we even need unseen speculation at all. Battletrch ripped off (legally or otherwise) Mechs from existing series. Today Macross still actually exists. HGs claim over it to me is very dubious since the company they bought access to it through was ruled as not legally being able to have done so. So depending how they're legal claim is worded I'm curious if they even own any rights or licenses still. Personally, keep the anime out of my non-anime related game please. The designs were fine. I love some of them. I just don't support ripping them off for another series.

Redesigns that look similar are great though. The anime mechs didn't really conform to Battletech rules anyway, mechs that do would be nicer.

Just my opinion but I support giving credit where its due. That anthe FAQ mentions any mech will go through MWOification if it gets included... So not sure what the point of this thread is.

I was wondering, If they only use FASA designs now, what about the designs of the Japanese version of Battletech?
From my knowledge, all the mechs were redesigned to match the asian taste and minimize the risk of being confused with the designs from all the Japanese series.

How is the legal situation regarding these designs?

No, I was not suggesting using these designs. I was just asking for clarification regarding legal issues.
(On the other hand, I somewhat like the Battlemaster, Valkirye, Shadow Hawk, Enforcer, Locust and Zeus)

IIRC, Harmony Gold still threw a fit even after the Reseen editions.

Did they still look too similar or something? Cos the art is the only thing that is theirs right?

I doubt Harmony Gold has ever bothered with the Japanese version in the past, since they have always complained about the US distribution rights only.

The artwork comissioned from Japan for the Clan refits in the original 3055 TRO was an issue though.

Ie. HG found these images to be not cool:

Look people...

The entire situation has nothing to do with Harmony Gold.

If it had then the Teaser from 2009 would have been taken off MWOs youtube account..

Or do you think PGI would still have it if it had really come to HG sueing?

Didnt thought so.

Also the leopard got a redisign... why not the rest like the thunderbolt or locust?

Yeeeeah... I do like a lot of the Japanese aesthetic (I love Nagaon's work on Five Star Stories for their ornateness, even if not practical), but I always thought the Japanese BT designs were waaaaay too busy.

And the very next day.. there would be 10 More..

Of course if there was some official word, we could all make the great escape to "Not having to worry about it anymore knowing finally that it is the way it is."

\o/ yay

ad. Yes I know, where would the fun in that be.

When did that change?

Recently apparently. Check the Battletech wiki stub (grain of salt mind you), it looks like the rights have reverted again.

"By August 2011, the remaining images that were considered to be unseen were returned to unseen status due to continuing problems with license agreements."

That doesn't seem to affect the Project Phoenix reseen though.

(Edit) Wait, what, Jenner IIC is unseen? Wut?

Just to clarify, the trailer for Mechwarrior "Reboot" came out a few years ago and was uploaded by a different youtube account than Mechwarrior Online's. They added it to theirs after they did that little mini-series about how they made the trailer.

And the designs look *uck ugly...

...also if you want to be obsessive about timelines, most of those visual refit don't occur until 3067...

...guess we're still 18 years out.

The 3060's was the current timeframe that Project Phoenix was published and since it doesn't look like the succession wars will re-visited by Catalyst Labs. Currently they've been doing Age of War stuff, pre-pre-pre-succesion wars, so that leaves us....
