And the designs look *uck ugly...

...also if you want to be obsessive about timelines, most of those visual refit don't occur until 3067...

...guess we're still 18 years out.

The Project Phoenix images were used in the TRO 3039, effetively retconning them.

Hate to tell you, but there is no unseen/reseen retcon in the pipeline for now:

Quote

Unseens:
[18:32] <martian> Unseens and new appearances - any info?
[18:33] <@Habeas2> Martian - There will be no new appearances of the Unseen. We will not be going back to those images.
[18:36] <martian> So you have decided not to retcon how they have looked like?
[18:38] <@Habeas2> Martian - At this time, it has been deemed too costly and problematic to do so, yes, especially as we are moving away from the eras when those units were in play.

I don't understand why people keep thinking that the issue with the Unseen is a matter of money.

It's a matter of the original tabletop game using licensed artwork (which it doesn't anymore). PGI (or Catalyst, or ACRONYM games, or MekTek, or Activision, or MicroProse) can all make THEIR OWN ART for these 'mechs to use in their own products (like they do with all the other 'mechs anyway). It's really just a matter of doing it, and the customers accepting new art.

IMO, *not* making or using new art for these 'mechs just compounds the issue and frustrates the playerbase even more.

With the artwork we've seen so far for 'mechs in MWO, I am 100% confident that PGI can come up with something both original and *cool* enough to use for these 'mechs.

Like I said before, it's just a matter of actually doing it.

I dont think you fully understood my post. For the Battletech universe the Project Phoenix designs being included in the TRO 3039 effectively retconns them.

My bad, didnt read the link since im on my phone.

The images are still used in the TRO 3039, effectively retconned but not officially? Stupidity if you ask me.

That battlechat is for an upcoming push of the tabletop timeline into the year 3250.

EDIT: bolded for emphasis

Why necro a thread from march? We all want the unseen, most of is will be cool with pgi versions free from license issues. They are the common mechs from our era.

My copy of TRO3039 only has hardly recognizable outlines for the mechs in question, no visible artwork.

Then you need to read it again, 3250 is only a small part of the chat log.
Or are you under the impression that; Objectives: Free Worlds League, Field Reports 2765, Lance Pack: Bounty Hunter, etc all take place in 3250?

A silhouette is still an image.

This is incorrect. TRO:3039's silhouettes only indicate the post-Phoenix versions of those 'Mechs; the actual Succession Wars-era units still canonically look like the Unseen and that's the reason they are not given art, and the Line Developer has indicated that they have no intention of retconning them to something else at this point.

You should read your own quote again. Objectives: Free Worlds League, Field Reports 2765, Lance Pack: Bounty Hunter are not "moving away from the eras when those units were in play."

Then read the first part of the sentence you omited from your reply:

Quote

At this time, it has been deemed too costly and problematic to do so

It might change some time in the future, but right now we can't have updated artwork.

I really wish that this was different since I really like mechs like the Marauder, Locust, etc, but we can't have them.

Ill read it again when i get home, but why include even a silhouette if then instead of just leaving the pages blank?

It's a placeholder like the ones they use on the MUL, just compare:

Still, why bother with an incorrect placeholder if the intention is to make the mechs different again? The simplest solution would be to retcon the whole thing, a step clearly intended with the place holder art.

Except... here we are in a game that is centered around 3049. We are right in the thick of the usage of those mechs. Most of the unseen are all the common mechs of our time period.

Obviously there is a current need for those mechs.

For example (taken from the TR 3050):

Locust - "The Locust is one of the most common 'Mechs in the Inner Sphere"
Stinger - "Though not as widely produced as the Locust and Wasp, the Stinger is still very common everywhere except the Daconic Combine and FRR."
Wasp - "With thousands of Wasps in service and more than 100 new ones marching off the assembly lines every year, this 'Mech is one of the most common in the Inner Sphere and Prephery."

Most of the unseen have similar descriptions. While the rest of the 'Mechs have descriptions like:

Clint - "Never produced in great numbers, the Clint has become almost an oddity on today's battlefield."

If we are to continue getting new mechs, something has to give.
