Well to be clear, it doesn't exist any more. No more then Japan does. People in the 31st century have as much in common with us as we do with people of the 11th century.

Erm...not quite, there are still many countries today that existed in the 11th century, unlike the BTech Universe where they don't bother with countries because territory is quite literally measured on a galactic scale, measuring light years across and comprised of X number of star systems with Y number of habitable planets and trillions for a population base. Liao is based on Chinese cultural lines, and it's symbol is

It doesn't matter if it happened a long time ago, it doesn't matter what our personal opinion on the matter is, the only fact is that it's wrong. You can't hide behind enough lore to say it's okay to have a version of the Japanese flag on a Chinese mech when people in China are rioting right now (ongoing) over the Senkaku Islands dispute, it's going to offend someone and you'll never hear the end of it.

The skin is okay, there's nothing wrong with it. But the skin is currently tied ONLY to a Chinese mech.

You can listen to us and put that skin up on the store and change the YLW skin to something more appropriate or you can just let it go and gamble to see if you get any negative media on Kotaku or other news site that don't care if they stir up controversy on your behalf.

Doesn't matter to me or others, we're just here to warn you guys of the consequences. Personally? I don't care, but I do like this game and the least amount of negative publicity you get, the better.

wait...you guys are getting butthurt about a flag that Japan STILL USES? The JMSDF still uses that flag to this day...its the standard naval ensign they deploy. Thats like saying the US flag is offensive. holy crap

Based on is not the same as exactly the same thing. With your flawed logic, you could say that the United States of America = Roman Empire because they have a few key similarities. Similarly the Chinese have as much in common with Capellans and the Japanese have as much in common with the Dracs.

However, as we should both know, that's a ridiculous assertion... isn't it?

Nationality is something millions riot over, wars are fought over it, lifetime are spent within it. How can say its something not to be offended over? Or even hint that the wishes of these people are dismissible

I'm not getting butthurt at all. I proudly flew German aircraft with swastikas in "il-2 Sturmovik" - they're in place in Russian edition, but I believe painted over in European to avoid butthurt. Various Finnish Air Force commands still use swastika on their flags, btw.

I fully support the canonicity of the YLW in both paintwork and hardpoints. Why I will destroy any one I see is because of CN9-AH taken away from me.

The paint scheme on Yen-Lo Wang is a CANON paint scheme. We did not mistakenly stick a somewhat Japanese related emblem on a Chinese named Mech. We just kept the color from the stories/miniatures/trading cards/TT etc etc etc.

And before you start waiving your torches around, we will be releasing some new info on the other hot topics. This one was personally grating on me.... so there!

BTW: I am Japanese and am very well aware of the slight oversight of the original design but we kept it since it was canon.

You know what, I really don't know why people are making such a big deal out of the paint scheme or why they are mad/feel mislead by it.

Japan does not exist. China does not exist (in Battletech terms). There is House Liao and House Kurita. Remember, you need to take anything BT canon with the a grain of salt and an 80's mindset.

Except it's not a Chinese 'Mech. And even if you're trying to argue that the Cappellan Confederation is Space China, it's still not even a Cappellan 'mech. It's a FedSun 'mech. The only Cappellan plant that made Centurions was on Ramen II, but that was wiped out in 2845 during the second Succession War. Centurions are all made on New Avalon or on Panpour, both pretty solidly FedSun worlds.

So really, this 'mech is a Davion machine piloted by a Davion double-agent who painted a Japanese sunburst on it and called it a Chinese name. And no one in the Battletech Universe seems to have ever had a problem with that.

I was under the impression that it was painted like that because it looked cool for tournament purposes. Keep in mind, the original has the red lines coming from the center, not the upper side torso.

Perhaps I'm wrong but I think it's entirely unrelated to the Japanese rising sun as there hasn't been such a thing as Japan in the BTU in what, 1000-1200 years or so? (While DCM is very Japanese flavored, I can't recall a single cultural artifact having a thing to do with anything related to Japan as a government/nation, beyond cultural traditions)

tl/dr: Isn't it basically just like a glorified 'mech pro wrestling / gladiator outfit?

We're trying to help avoid an issue when the game goes live. You obviously can't read our intentions because you're looking for reasons to argue.
