Why not ? I want Precision AC-20 ammo for all those homing AC-20 shell headshots ;)

In 15-20 years' time, you might get it. ;)

In case anyone was interested, it seems the U.S. Navy has the first Electromagnetic Rail Guns in testing, below are the official photos of the weapon and the projectile.

Article to read with photos here:

And other details here: http://www.navweaps....US_Rail_Gun.htm

A video of the unit pictured below firing. : http://www.reuters.c...deoId=230957596

It looks pretty close to the Battletech Gauss rifle lol.

Hehe, I never said it was a Gauss Rifle, just that it sort of looked like a gauss rifle.

I think it's kinda cool we're looking at genuine lostech here lol.

IIRC with hundreds of manufacturers in the galaxy there are lots of different kinds of weapons that fire different kinds of ammo but are grouped together under "AC/##" because in TT terms they do similar damage over a similar period of time. An AC/20 could be either a 120mm automatic cannon or a 300mm giant boomgun with slow rate of fire. It would actually be nice if we had different types of every Autocannon size available so like the above example, for an AC/20 I could either have a rapid-firing mid-size gun or a slow-firing big cannon, both with the same DPS...

LBX should have different ammo types obviously -- solid slug (AC) and LBX shotgun blast.

I'd like to see missiles have some different ammo types as well, something that would need to be trained up for or an added module needed. Basic warheads do standard physical damage, then you might have napalm/incendiary warheads that do far less physical damage and more just heat up your target, or maybe submunition warheads that saturate the target with clusters of small grenade-sized explosives for damaging exposed critical components that have taken armour damage, but leave "healthy" armour relatively intact.

Mag-Pulse warheads are canon and as of The Wars of Reaving, there are Improved Magnetic Pulse warheads for iATMs.
AC ammo is generally described as "high-explosive, armor-defeating", even as HEAP - which can be used to describe a variety of penetrating mechanisms (though not always correctly and is dependant on whose alphabet-soup you are using.)
Gauss rifle rounds have typically been described as "nickel-ferrous."

To the OP's comment regarding color-quality, I would not discount it since there so many manufacturers of any given weapon and the fluff has indicated differences in quality for some of them.

Ah okay. You learn something new everyday, but then I haven't read the War of Reaving. And that would be what, 3085, or later? Still not ammo we would be using in this game at the moment.

Well, EMP rounds never existed in canon. Inferno(incendiary/Fuel-air explosive) did. And besides the standard "dummy" warhead, the AC ammo was always depleted uranium, and Gauss rounds were Titanium (can someone correct me on this?) slugs.

FWIW, the iATM has an EMP-like ammo type.

So incredibly, wildly out of place in MWO.

[edit]
that's what I get for not reading the last two posts. sorry!

Greetings to all,
New to the Forums

My thoughts would be that the Developers should stick to the Time Line and Core Rule Books. If MWO were to take place during 3025 there would be no LBX or NARC etc.
Keep it Canon, that way when a new Weapon or Ammo is introduced it will be that much more exciting and Fearful.

I've always read it, in books anyways, the size of a basketball. Which traveling at those speeds is still a lot of friggin energy.

Or mellon.

Or caseless rounds for AC's?

Or any of the things listed in the old tactical handbook (Book is evil IMO)

In MW3 all types of autocannons fired a stream of projectiles, rather than a single shell. There were no Flechette rounds, and the only advantages that LBX's had were weight, space & heat.

Are you sure? I could swear that the LBX shots burst into a little puff a little ways out of the barrel.

Only the type of warheads available in canon need to be found in MWO and available to everyone. Stay away from "golden ammo" and pay to win!

but the price of specialty ammo should be based on the specific ability and the canon availability

LB-X cluster shot should not be much different than regular shot. but precision should be much more expensive than cluster... and only standard autocannons should be able to use specialty rounds. stick to the cannon.

standard AC - all kinds except cluster
LB-X - standard/cluster
Ultra AC - standard rounds
Rotary - Standard rounds

Infernos are incendiary, like napalm. FAE/Thermobarics are something wholly different - more about the concussive effects than burning stuff up. Search Youtube for "daisy cutter"

On the subject of LBX-class autocannons: In Battletech they fire flechette rounds (commonly referred to as "buckshot") and armour-piercing shells.

Flechettes are darts ("beehive round", buckshot (look down that page) is typically spherical in shape. The two are VERY different projectiles. I have shot both. and do not argue for a rifled slug - not an AP round)). LBX is a scatter-shot, like a shotgun shell with really large balls (yes,I went there), not a bullet launcher - no AP rounds out of an LBX, that is what the UAC/AC weapons are supposed to shoot.
