Is tomorrow, let this forever be a holiday of sorts.

Good hunting, or shall I say, slaughtering?

With the way PGI was handing out closed Beta keys, even down to anyone who bought the current issue of PC Gamer, I would not be surprised if the numbers don't surge too terribly much.

Too bad they removed the player count from the main menu. I really wanted to see the numbers on day 1.

I agree here. It was nice to look at the player count at the different times I play. Seeing a couple thousand was nice, but numbers did dip over the late night / early morning hours for me here.. think down to about 750 range, but still count get in some nice matches even if the were pick up group (PUG). In a way, the veterans here will probably enjoy the destroying the new folks as they learn stuff if you have a lance of friends already but PUG's are going to suffer as its hard to play and communicate by typing. I can see some serious C-bill loss as I am suffering some when playing in PUG here with a customized mech.

Here's hoping some other stuff has been fixed up too, but more likely next update is still a few weeks away.

I've wondered why they did it. I wonder if MWO has smaller numbers than they had hoped. I base this off of how long it took for all the free beta keys to be taken.

And I know what is missing from this game. Emotional investment. I can't make a connection to my 'character' because I don't have one. I just jump from mech to mech as I grind out money.

Eh, I don't think there will actually be many new players at all.

The last few beta key handouts couldn't even get rid of all the keys they had.

I feel it will be another average day just more people online to check out the update not so much more people signing up.

Well, I've been plugging this game on my gaming community's forums for a while and I just updated it with info regarding open beta. Hopefully some of them try it out.

1. and 2. The Commando, Jenner, Raven, Cicada, Centurion, Hunchback, Dragon, Catapult, Awesome, and Atlas are currently in game. Each of those mechs have 2-5 different variants available (the variants differ in where you can mount weapons and how many of each type of weapons you can mount).
3. You start with four trial mechs. The current crop of trial mechs includes the Raven, Centurion, Dragon, and Awesome. You can't customize trial mechs and you don't earn XP in a trial mech, but you do earn C-Bills while piloting a trial mech. Basically the trial mechs exist so you can learn the game while earning enough C-Bills to buy your first real mech.
4., 5., 6., 7. Things are definitely going to be rough for new players until they learn the game and save up enough for their own mech.
8. Its free and has mechs in it, so you might as well at least give it a try to see if you like the game play. Also, everyone else started off sucking at MWO and you can't get better if you don't play.

I laugh at the arrogance of some of you closed beta testers. From what I've seen, this game works generically like the other mechwarriors I played, and I'm fairly certain there'll be people that join in open beta that have more experience from previous mechwarriors and do just fine. I'm gunna look back at this in 12 hours, after I EZ about a dozen of these elitist.

I do not know if the open beta will surge much, it sounds like even some founders, thousands from what russ said, are simply biding their time and waiting for a polished product, it might simply be left to us folks to grind out the fixes, then on release day we will be vets, or vamps, and will then be able to pummel the community at large and drink their blood in copious quantities. I see no reason for them to be telling untruths Ie 5. mil in pre-sales it just would not add up. There are simly enough good games out there for people to play their favorite until its time to play the finished product :)
My two cents :)

While i am not even close to being your so called "Elitist" i can tell you that you will not be EZ as you put it so many of the ppl on here in 12 hrs. i say this because its gonna take you days to learn the maps and the weapons and the mechs them selves. (Esp when you get one shotted in an awesome by sniper atlas who thinks your head looks like a giant bullseye.

But then what do i know you might just EZ me on your first game out.

I'm a living testament, if your a good gamer and have decent reflexes, understand first person shooters, and you "get" what a mech is, chances are you will get a kill or two pretty early on. I have introduced two people to this game, and they have beta keys now, they had never played mech but understood the concept, but they are hard core gamers, it took them like 4 drops to better then me, and I have been playing since the inception of the game, so do not cry about getting slaughtered, just endure till you get it, then give back ...nothing gives back like a mech with an AC20 bro :)

Use the Awesome or Centurion first to get an idea of how to use weapons, learn ranges and targeting, stay close to your team mates and expect light mechs to get behind you and rip you to shreds. Then give the Raven a go and have fun sneaking up behind slow moving assault mechs, spotting for team mates with lrms and expect to get taken out easily until you learn to move and fire on the run. lastly try the Dragon and then you put it all together. Good luck, it can be fun if you don't take it too seriously.
