I played Mechwarrior 1 a long, long time a go. Read a few books. Played a sequel (maybe MW2), but haven't been involved with the universe in well over a decade.

Can anyone suggest a few particularly enticing books that would be good in re-introducing me into this universe? Any suggestions welcome, especially if a little 1 or 2 sentence synopsis is given!

Much appreciated!

I would skip the books for now and go here: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Timeline

Check out the timeline on the wiki, dig deeper into events that interest you, then maybe dig up some books on what you find coolest. Starting with books I think might be too narrow a view to start the immersion process.

For the sake of an interesting read, I'd recommend the Blood of Kerensky Trilogy by Michael Stackpole. It details the events leading up to and beginning with the Clan Invasion, which will happen 'soon enough' after MWO releases. I'm also going down the extra road and bought some of the source books to further supplement my own newfound quest for knowledge in the BattleTech Universe.

Im going to do the same, need to see first the game if its ok, its been a while indeed. And not to mention the business model, some f2p games are just plain evil and all about greediness. :D

Try Battletech: 25 years of Art and Fiction. Available on Amazon here:

http://www.amazon.co...33127687&sr=8-1

Good primer for the entire history of the game (has timelines, maps, and articles about all the computer games associated with the line). Because its a collection of short stories, its easy to pick up, read one or two & not get overwhelmed with the universe. A real good flavor.

I highly recommend Shrapnel if you can find it.

Yeah, all these sources are a good place to start. I recently just started finding the novels online, and ordering them. I want to get everything up to Endgame, if possible. Minus the source books, I used to own those.

I have been reading and collecting allot of the books through the years. The are quite a few books that are out of print many though are kind of off the main story line so its not too much of a loss. I only ever read the first of the dark age novels. Immidiatly saw it was another "We'll wipe the universe and start over and we are free to write anything. We'll make new mechs! yes people will have to buy whole new game we will be rich. All they did was anger old school fans and they fell on their face. Allot of fans were already pissed off because they purposfully killed, wiped out whole groups that people were fans of. Just so they could start thir fiction with a clean slate.A couple charectors made it through but blah. Dont forget some books are on audio. I have tech manuals all that but unless you are goign to play the original table top game your wasting your money. Most everything is online esp wiki's
