just got me a HBK-45p.Has an AMS hard point.Now I found the ammo for it,bought it, but does not show on my loadout screen in the cockpit.Is there another component to this system, and if so where do you get it?

AMS is like a machine gun. You need the gun and ammo. AMS can be found in the weapons tab when you are viewing a section with an AMS hardpoint. AMS ammo can be place anywhere.

Having the hardpoint doesn't mean you have a weapon equipped in it. AMS is a weapon in slot like any other. You have to slot it from the shop. Make sure you also slot ammo for it or you'll have an AMS with no bullets to shoot. Basically every Mech has an AMS hardpoint but most don't actually use it by default. You need to slot it then slot at least 1ton of ammo, which will cost you 1.5 tons.
