Something Awful says right on the home page "the internet makes you stupid" and it's kind of our motto. We seek to demonstrate its truth both by holding up a mirror to others and by being really dumb ourselves.

For a while the general board (GBS) had multiple threads posted every single day on the subject of pooping. If I recall correctly the word filter that's enabled if you view threads without logging in still filters "********" to "making GBS threads." The filter was first put in place because google searches like "butt sex fiesta explosion" were returning SA as the first hit.

Edit: Really, PGI, you have to do something about this puritanical word filter. I can't say **** retentive or magna *** laude. I can't talk about the **** plant and the important oil made from its seeds. I can't talk about the period of 19th century history known as the *** Nineties. I keep finding unexpected words that filter to *s and it really messes up posts.

I'm very tempted. However, I'm in no rush to drop the 10bux since I wouldn't be doing so to be a goon. Instead, I'd drop it to show that I do support what the goons do...plus, I don't currently have an extra 10bux to spare when I could instead use that 10bux to buy a decriminalized substance that I love so dearly.

It is rarely instantaneous, which is why we have the code phrase "Lurk more." Failure to remain silent during the assimilation process usually leads to poor posting, and makes the poster lose privileges until assimilation is complete.
