deree, but to change the chassis, no. A Mechwarrior will never be able to fundamentally change a chassis, those decisions are up to those in a higher position. I am confident in saying that for , say an armourded corps, platoon, whatever, no crew decides how the weapon system is configured....fundamentally, that is. So a crew for an M1 Abrams cannot change the armaments, this is a command decision, correlation....because this is a game , limited customisation, but no such thing as a Frankenmech.
I hope that is coherent
You will NEVER get a T92 turret onto an Abrams....thats the picture i get. Just an example.
Clan mechs seem to be a different story though

Don't want to be the developer to be lynched by a mob of angry CBT fans when something like that is possible
There are some exceptions Ninja-Bolt, Schwerer Gustav, Cathepract that have the stigmata of a franken mechs but the first are curiositiys the last is allready a canon battlemech with its own production

'Mechs are manufactured by for-profit organisations or Factional governments, often situated far away from each other. It doesn't make sense to have spliced 'Mechs the same way it doesn't make sense to have a jet comprised of Boeing 737 wings stuck onto an A330, or a Ferrari front mounted to the rear of a Ford F150. They are carefully designed machines and are proprietary designs for the companies that build them.

If you're not, then I'm not sure what you'd get by putting together the different parts of a mech within the context of a Mechwarrior game. The thing is, the only interesting thing about the parts (arms/leg/torso) are the components that you put on them (weapons). So if you want a PPC from the right-arm of an Awesome for your Dragon, then it's the PPC you'd move over, not the whole arm!

will most of the fans here go for it? nope.
I think if there were more instances of it in BT cannon people would concede a little bit, and there are some cases where people built "fraken mechs", but I think it was mostly mercs if memory serves me correctly. I personally don't think it would be a good idea, or we will end up with one or two of the "best" combos, and no one would pilot anything else, and suddenly mech matches would be MUCH less entertaining...but while I do not going to agree, I have no reason to "put someones head on the chopping block" over an idea...

Not a fan of this idea, sorry. This basically makes chassis useless and robs them of their unique traits and abilities by allowing you or just create some Frankenstein Mech that is fully customized to what you want. You should wait until (if?) omnimech technology is released. It's rather lax in terms of restrictions.
One thing you'll find a lot of fans want is customization, but NOT at the expense of turning all chassis into a arms race or min/maxing on technology/features
