Thankfully when knockdowns are re-added, all these seemingly "awesome" light mech pilots will become noobs again.

I blame the net code.

Not the way I play them. :)

Until that happens, you may wish to consider mounting SSRMs.

Oh there are good light pilots... they just dont stand out currently. A real good light pilot doesnt get knocked down. But without knockdowns.. all light pilots appear good. With some pitiful exceptions...
@above - Oh yea... Ive also noticed a large increase in ssrm usage.

This is why it's important that light mechs try to take out the opposing light mechs first... So that the rest of their team doesn't have to worry about ankle biters.

Situational awareness is so important in this game, and it all the medium and light mechs are too busy brawling each other to protect their bigger, slower, heavy and assault mechs from the enemy scouts, well, then they shouldn't be whining when they lose.

It is a bit frustrating, and the problem is multi-faceted. The issue is not limited to the net code, but also light mech hit boxes. I have observed instances when lasers on a fast moving mechs deal no damage (usually lasers are very good for tracking), I have also observed situation where a shutdown light mechs has absorbed 4 Large lasers without damage (no damage 2 volleys from 2 large lasers against a shutdown raven). An when a stationary (but not shutdown) Cicada absorbed 4 AC20 rounds, without its armor being penetrated (it was taking damage but I later discovered it was from laser fire only when my HBK's medium lasers finally cored it)

I've met only one guy who i had zero chance to hunt down with my scout killer Centurion build.

Yes, hitboxes are usually messed up, but this one takes the cake.
It was a Commando, nothing special, the pilot was trashy at best, he barely dodged anything with cover or good turning unlike some of the good light pilots i saw before. But he left his hitbox at their base or something, you couldn't hit him even when he was running in front of you in a straight line.

I've tried every trick in the book.
  • Tried aiming directly at him, just in case his hitbox is somehow where he appears to be
  • Tried shooting him while leading the target on various distances
  • Sweeping through with my lasers to guess where his invisible hitbox is from his damage model
  • Shot Streaks at him when he had no cover so they would surely hit him
  • Pulled him back to our main group. Since no other enemy mech was around that time a whopping amount of 6 mechs were shooting at him constantly for 1 minute.
Nothing worked. No damage at all.

The whole fight between him and me took around 5 minutes and i couldn't ignore him since he always followed me around. I literally tried to aim everywhere, even behind, above and below him after i got desperate, still nothing. He eventually chewed off my shield arm and i couldn't defend my torso anymore so he killed me after that while he had yellow armor due to a lucky LRM shot from the beginning of the game.

It will be a pleasure to try it out on your light if you have one. :)

So far it worked every single time (over the course of 180 games since the OB) except with this guy so i'm willing to test it against anyone.

I do not, sir. Just hunchbacks atm.

I'm guessing CN9-A w/ 3x SSRM2, 2x MPL and an ac/2 or something along those lines?

I'd sure like to know how one becomes one of these mystical Invincible light mechs.

The only positive thing that I get out of my 2x Med pulse/TAG 125kph Commando is being able
to hop back into a trial mech to grind for cbills after my 1-2 minute match.

that and being able to outrun most LRM barrages is pretty cool too

First. You need broken netcode/hit detection.

Second. You need laggy players connecting from around the world who expect performance as if the server was in their backyard.

Third. You need people that can't aim even without any netcode or lag issues.

Finally. You need firing delays and weirdness from various weapons.

Add those together at the same time and you are pretty much invincible.

Streakcats galore! Too bad they cant compensate for the netcode, at least not entirely. Against an Elite/Master Light, forget about it - i'm jumping out from buildings dumping my load all over your CT and gone again before you can lock... Unless there are no buildings, at which point i feel like the belle in C-block with how many missiles are chasing my exhaust port.

Its not all great piloting. Put a decent pilot in a light with jacked up speed and lump in all that Crab listed and forget it, you cant hardly hurt them. I have seen 5 mechs trying to blast a jenner and barely take 10% off it in two minutes. Lights are borked now.

Mediums the workhorse of the battlefields. Lol. They are the weakest. Too slow to run from lights, too slow to really bother assaults.

Speed is going to kill this game. Mech warrior is not meant to be a twitch shooter and it is with the current light speeds.

It's coming back? Oh, that would be awesome! It was the only equalizer for light mechs. It's ridiculous that in a game I should think "Forget shooting that Jenner, he will take FOREVER to kill. Now this Atlas on the other hand..." :)
