I PUG a lot and I don't know what to try and do with the energy hardpoints.

I stick close to the assaults, just a little behind.
the TAG has been clutch in a number of battles, especially when dealing with Atlas DDC,
but I don't always have or necessarily want direct Line of Sight in every situation.

Also 1 Medium Laser is hardly going to deter a light mech, I guess it's better than nothing, maybe.

I'd CASE the ammo but with the XL engine if either of the sides go, you're done.

Should I drop the AMS? when I'm next to another mech with AMS it practically eliminates incoming missile fire. At least it seems that way.

If I drop the TAG and AMS, and maybe skimped on the armor some I could fit 2 Medium Pulse Lasers.

Is indirect LRM fire an effective tactic that would compensate for the lack of a TAG?

My CPLT-C4

Thanks for helping a newb out!

I'd suggest dropping the AMS, yeah. With a C4 you're really really limited on your energy weapon options, even moreso if you're LRM-boating. LRMS tend to move too slowly for effective indirect fire, so you really need that TAG if you're going to use them exclusively. A Medium laser or MPL is better than nothing. As far as dealing with light mechs is concerned, your only real option is sticking close to some teammates; the battlefield at present is just really unkind to LRM boats, especially if you're dropping by yourself.

What I ended up doing with my C4 is mounting two LRM launchers and two SRM launchers; this way I've got long range and short range covered, even if I'm not as good at either one as someone boating all LRMS or SRMS. I also got rid of my TAG because I wanted two backup lasers, but that's just my personal preference.

One miscellaneous thing I would suggest is putting as much of your ammo as you can in the legs, and maybe a ton in the head as well. I wouldn't bother with CASE in your side torsos; Catapults are great for XLs because of how tiny those torsos are, and if they're getting blown up you're probably going to be dead pretty soon no matter what, since your launchers are probably gone.

I'd have to agree with Elkfire
having some backup weapons really helps.
I'm a brawler, I'm not that good at hanging back, but if I see a build like yours, all LRMs, not a whole lot close in, I get as close as I can to you, in your face, and I don't back off until you are dead or your friends come to help, and with your massive minimum range, unless you do stick with friendlies, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it.
If I were you, I would swap the 4 15s to 2 20s and put 2 SRM 6s in. Streaks aren't so good, because if your opponent has ECM, you're in the same place as before. I would also put a medium laser, a pulse if you can fit it, in the CT as well. I always cringe slightly if someone is completely ammo dependent, because if they run dry, they're only good as meat shield and capping.
AMS, I kinda like, but I would rather put that tonnage into armor.
These are my thoughts as someone who loves when opponents have builds like yours, if you have nothing to keep my honest close in, guess where I'll be. Right in your face where you can't fight back.
Keep friendlies nearby, they are your best defense.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll try those variations out, and see how I do.

I'd keep the tag, put a medium pulse in the other slot, it's the highest laser dps you can get in 1 slot.

I have had very little luck running lrms in my c4, between ECM and the layout of the current maps favoring brawling, it has just been too hard. The best build I found was to beat them at their own game, 4x SRM6 with 6 tons ammo, 2 ML in center torso, 300xl, and all the double heat sinks I could fit. Very durable and incredibly entertaining when a light gets in your way

I see that you're running 4 LRM15s. I'd switch that to 4 LRM10s with Artemis. They fire faster, and the grouping is a lot tighter, meaning you can actually kill your targets more quickly. It runs cooler as well, and it allows you the spare tonnage for more armour and a bigger engine, increasing your own survivability. Stick to the meat shield, keep line of sight for both TAG and Artemis, and you should be deadly even fighting against ECM. The LRM minimum range isn't that much of a problem, since the extreme torso twist the Catapult has allows you to run away from an enemy at full speed while you face almost backwards and still fire your missiles.

LRM's + PUG?
I'd suggest scrap the mech and use direct-fire weapons...or join the cheese brigade with SRM's.
