Hi everyone! Topic is the question: How does MWO handle ammo explosions? Are they even implemented yet? I already did a forum search for this topic but all the posts I got were from many months ago, so I figured things might have changed since then.

Will ammo explode due to overheating, or a critical hit to the internal structure? How much damage does it do to the mech if it cooks off? Does having less ammo (having already shot some of it off) make a difference?

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

It can explode due to heat, it can explode to a critical hit. It does all the damage that amount of ammo would have done when it cooks off. Less ammo does less damage.

don't forget it breaches into the next section. IE ammo stored in the side torso will reach over into the CT.

Yep. If you torso mount the ammo CASE isn't a bad thing to take too. More so if you us XL engines and want to mitigate the bill.

I've had it happen (since I don't tend to equip CASE). It happend to me because I kept over-riding shut-down. I stored ammo in the side torsos (with an XL engine) so it was catastrophic. Basically blew myself up.

I think if you store ammo in the arms, it might blow the arm off. If you store it in a torso, it damages internals (CASE I think prevents this, or prevents it from affecting other torso locations) if it doesn't out-right kill you. I have only experienced it with heat, I don't think ammo will explode under any other circumstance.

Ammo will blow to both heat and critical hits.

Ammo explosion damage moves inward; If the damage from the explosion exceeds the sections' health, the damage will be applied to the subsequent section, and then to the subsequent section after that.

CASE mounted in a side torso will mitigate the damage; you'll still love the CASEd section but it will prevent the ammo explosion damage from destroying your CT.

If I'm not mistaken all CASE does is prevent the explosion from spreading; I understand that there are some misconceptions regarding whether or not it actually prevents damage (I don't know myself).
