***** There are NOT diminishing returns on additional heat sinks. *****

The testers who posted about this made clear that their dependent variable was the heat efficiency statistic in the mech lab, NOT the performance of heat sinks in-game. When their results were misinterpreted by many, they kindly tested heat sinks in-game and concluded that the diminishing returns applied ONLY to the heat efficiency statistic. These tests were done with singles.

And, yes, DHS are currently bugged, and the devs are working on a solution. they said this should be out no later than the 6th.

Edit: Yes, what they said ^^^^^.

Thanks for clarifying. I will cease to cite that report incorrectly. So, then, you are saying each heatsink dissipates the same amount of heat per second, regardless of how many heatsinks a mech has, or how hot a mech is currently?

Thanks

Regarding dhs, the last post I saw said a fix would be in by the sixth, if it was determined to be not working as intended, but the current situation may, or may not be working as intended.

Don't quote me on this, because I only started playing this game yesterday, but I was curious as to how MWO handles heat mechanics compared to the table-top. I read somewhere that heat sinks in MWO don't do anything to prevent heat build-up in the first place. The original table-top mechanics had it so that if you fired a ER-PPC that generated 15 heat, and you had 10 single heat sinks, you'd gain 5 heat. In MWO, you gain the full 15 heat regardless of how many heat sinks you have. The way MWO handles heat sinks is HOW FAST you cool down AFTER you fire.

I think. If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me and let me know how it actually works.

Heat sinks also affect your heat capacity - 100% on the heat scale is 30+number of heatsinks. Other than that, you are correct - each heatsink dissipates 0.1 heat per second, but they do nothing to mitigate the initial heat buildup.

Actually Paul edited out the "if it was determined to be not working as intended" part, the next day(Sat). It just says it would be fixed, now.

Heat is always generated and must be bled off. According to our tests, I can confirm that within the parameters we tested each heat sink bleeds off the same amount of heat. We believe this would extend to all testable parameters but do not want to make claims we cannot verify.

I think they decided that even if they (the devs) thought it was working fine, it was NOT worth the uproar on the forums to leave it that way. And it is the correct decision, most of the complaining on the forums was well reasoned and the current implementation was not correct. (edited this part because I was not paying attention when I wrote it)
