I'd rather the cannon, but if we *really* want homing missiles...I present to you the copperhead round. Reintroduced formally into the CC in 3051, but who's to say someone isn't needing prototypes tested in combat?
According to the rules, for all intents and purposes it is to be treated as an Arrow IV warhead, so says Sarna anyway.

EDIT: I just straight out prefer the cannon. Arrow IVs are nice and all, but I'm old fashioned. A proper artillery strike needs a cannon. Missiles are for precision removal of a single target - cannons are for suppressing and removing an area. And they make a really nice 'boom' noise when you pull the trigger.

Not available till '51....

That's what I said, but what I see on it says they were under development for a while. *Shrugs* it's an option. Either way, I'm going to stick with the Helepolis and it's Sniper if I'm allowed it. Still plenty useful :P

Sorry for thread by hijacked GM, but we are pirates...

Can I chuck in a suggestion for the new faces?

They're members of the Tombstone Barber Shop Quartet, a mercenary group that plays the privateer angle so close they are nigh on bandits themselves. They're skilled in asset retrieval and denial...looting and pillaging, by any other name, and where possible they try to find a contract that provides some authority to that, if just to ensure they get paid twice. They have a very poor rating (though not quite rogue) from the MRB and are black-listed in the Draconis Combine, the Tauran Confederation and the Duchy of Oriente.

The Quartet have come to Main Street hunting Linda's Raiders, same as the Blue Suns. They don't have a contract, but have heard the local magistrate has offered a bounty, as well as that a rival group of bandits is willing to pay for killcam footage of the Raiders getting shot down. Their initial plans were to pick off any stragglers they could get, but upon finding out that the Blue Suns are here, figure they have a shot at taking down the whole bandit group with a little cooperation (which also lends to their legitimacy, allowing them to "commandeer" other things on world as they choose)

I've styled them as a "Quartet" with the thought of Rogue, Thom, Vodka and myself being in the sole lance, but we could always say they were originally a lance who have picked up a few extras along the way as they salvaged 'Mechs and wanted to put them to use.

Thoughts?

So much win.

Very doable. Now if we could get Rogue and Vodka get in on the missile heavy unit. But, you know we'd be screwed in an extended campaign...

I like missiles or anything that goes *boom* really...

Though if the Quartet are going to be borderline pirates, it would seem a poor choice to have any ammunition reliant mechs.

It does seem that we got kinda sidetracked with the missile attacks of DOOM... Have to agree with Ya there, having ammo dependent mechs isn't that good for brigands. But it would be FUN!!! :P

Figure it's 54K c-bills for a ton of narc equipt SRMs or 60K c-bills for LRMs plus they'd be poor availability in the less-than-civilized places. But being able to put down targets quickly can save money in the long run.

Not a fan of the Sniper piece... Sniper ammo is 10 shots per ton at the cost of 6K C-bills. And a damage of 10/5. Arrow IV (hopefully I can talk Vodka into using the ArrowIV version of the Catapult) is 5 shots at 10K C-bills but the damage is 20/10 with damage guarenteed with homing missiles, even if I miss with 'Tagging' the target.

The question is then are we legit enough to be allowed into Galeta or Outreach without being chased down and exterminated? We could do it then. We just might be not be liked that well for our 'questionable' tactics.

Well, Sniper adds a little bit more longevity, and the Arrow IV simply doesn't hold the same appeal to me.

True, but they're also meant to be a little poor and dodgy. A Fortress isn't really in their league.

*Shrugs* To each his own. Sorry if I seem to be pushy. I'm biased. This one time, I used a lace comprised of a Raven, Sha Yu (love that mech) and two Vindicators. It was backed up with a couple of tanks (forgot the name but everything I used was canon) mounting two ArrowIV's. I went up against a Stiener assault lance and wiped the floor with them.

I have good memories of that match.

@ Brenden :P Unseen action.

Apparently Arrow IV missiles were only in production again in 3044, so it may be a bit of a stretch for our merry quartet to have acquired them. :P

From what I have heard, Dougram and Crusher joe -might- allow us use of their images, just not harmony gold. If it is to be believed then the following might be seen. Listed according to importance:
Shadow Hawk
Thunderbolt
Locust
Wolverine
Griffin
Battlemaster
Goliath
Scorpion

From what I heard, Harmony Gold were fine with it - they allowed it before anyway, and PGI says the holdup was not due to HG. Who knows what's going to happen?

@Thom, don't worry about it. I'm often the same with my own preferences - and artillery is a love of mine in all game. Missile barrages do amuse me, but to my mind you just can't beat the thump and roar of a cannon. Besides, missiles can be shot down, have trails, can be detected...howitzers just land.

At this time I think the only one that does in the IS anyways is the CPLT-C3 - The C3 variant of the Catapult takes the 'Mech's long range fire support to a new level by removing both of the LRM-15 launchers and replacing them with an Arrow IV artillery system, allowing the Catapult to stay a safe distance from the battlefield, though its solitary ton of ammunition forces it to stay close to supply lines. The 'Mech is otherwise identical to the C1 model. BV (1.0) = 1,030[2], BV (2.0) = 1,368[6]

Not much for longevity at all... but it would do 50-100 points of damage. On average the standard LRM15's on the stock Cat would do 128pts of damage, but that's if you hit with every shot. That being said the damage is spread out all over while the homing missiles would punch 10-20 points holes in a mechs armor... but that's my thinking.

You could (I would, especially if you have Grinder's Stalker tagging along with you) drop two of the meds for more ammo. Or atleast drop two of them to smalls for another ton of homing missile pain.

EDIT: a Narc equipt Cat would on average do 192...

Doominator and Deathmobile?

Does the C3 have a C3 slave/master? If it does, it doesn't exist yet. I'm probably just confused by the variant tag.
Listen, I just want to play with my toy okay, lemme alone :P

Urbie isn't unseen, is it o.O?
I find the name 'Deathmobile' amusing for such a slow mech. I shall join you in my own Urbie - here's praying to any deity that happens to exist and be passing by that it gets included.

:(

Low ammo is not very fun.

---------------------

Realistically or thinking strategically it would make sense to focus on some energy heavy mechs. :P

On that note the Grasshopper and Ostsol strike me as rather fitting for a borderline pirate.

-------

What mechs do the Quartet have so far?
