I'd watch the religious swearing. Not appreciated.

"for christ's sake" isnt a swear. Religious censorship is not appreciated and is offensive.

Oh man...I'm starting to really hate myself for always clicking on those stupid whine threats. We had that kindd of conversation at the beginning of closed beta, we had it at the beginning of the founders program, we had it before open beta and we (surprise!) have it now. It's the same pointless routine of "this game is soooo not finished. The devs are soooo going to rip us all off..."

Why the hell are those whiners actually still around?! I mean...seriously? Ain't got nothin better to do?

It boggles me to see so many people think this is beta.

They use the word beta to justify bugs, unfinished gameplay and features, and rush to release because they need to bring in money to make the investors happy

Someone pushed them to release the game, but it wasn't ready, so they came up with a phoney beta with no wipe, and yes we'll take your money thank you.

Beta is a testing phase.
Beta does not let you buy time with real cash.
Beta wipes everything, because people are testing. You cant test anything without wipes
because people wont buy and test the crazy stuff. Real money is at stake

You really believe this is beta ?
Go, go PT Barnum.

The bad part is, they take money from people and let them get pugstomped into the ground with trial mechs. Gonna lose paying customers like that. Genius

Funny FireFall is in beta and you can pay for in game items with real money. And like FireFall, no one is making anyone spend real money on anything,

I'm not really sure why folks are getting so wound up. I clicked this to try and confirm that there is no wipe at the end of open BETA. I've been in several games for beta, both closed and open. I have not seen a game yet where there was no wipe at the end of the beta and before "release".

I'm glad I did read the post about the beta and that there would be no wipe, because I had only got in on closed beta in the last few days, and had bought some MC to support the game development and to try some builds while the game was in BETA. I assumed another wipe would come at release and MC restored so I could freely test. This not being ht case, I would have been rather upset that this isn't "BETA" when the time came that MWO goes "Release" and I had spend MC in a way that I wouldn't have chosen for my "Release" builds.

I like the game, and am having fun, but call what it is what it is. If everything that happens now is carrying through into live release, then it should be either termed "Early Access" or just plain "Release" - there's nothing BETA about a game that is live with no wipes before the BETA tag is dropped.

See you all on the battlefield! Have fun, and enjoy the game!

I concur. Call it whatever you will, but if I spend my money/MC and there is no reset when the game goes live. I am no longer in a testing phase, I am in that of a consumer and paying for my product.

It is beta in the sense that they plan on continually improving the product. Where is it written in stone that you do not charge for beta software? I've been paying for microsoft's beta software since DOS.

You guys are nit picking and playing word games with your selves. All you need to realize is that the product is available to the public "as is". You see exactly what you are paying for. You are told up front that the software will change over time. Occasionally for the better  It is your job as a consumer to decide if the price is right for you or not.

So either buy or don't buy, but don't feel like MWO owes you anything.

For all you know PGI could have done a lot of legal research and found a loophole with the CryEngine, the beta title, and profits.

What if PGI does not have to pay Crytek royalties for using the CryEngine as long as the game PGI is making with Crytek's engine is in beta?

Take the beta title away and suddenly PGI owes Crytek money for making profit off a game made with Crytek's game engine?

Conspiracy theory much?
How bout they are calling it beta because it's not done? Or does that make too much sense.

OPEN BETA: Open betas serve the dual purpose of demonstrating a product to potential consumers, and testing among an extremely wide user base likely to bring to light obscure errors that a much smaller testing team might not find.

If game never happens to get out of beta.

And their are no credits to see your name in, which you paid for.

Could that = class action lawsuit in the future?

Or does the beta title cancel all that out?

Lets see, anyone can join, the last stat reset has taken place, and they will take your money. That sounds like beta is over to me. Having come from combat arms(which ended for me in hacker and brat infested disaster ignored by nexon), and having started at the end of beta, this to me looks like a VERY young game that was rushed to release by those holding the purse strings. It can still become great, but has a looong way to get there.

...why would a paying customer be in a trial?

Because sometimes they are fun to run?

They really aren't so bad, their suckiness is just magnified by lack of a good matchmaker.

I agree. This isn't beta. It just doesn't have enough to be called that. For true beta testing, it should be testing the actual finished game with all features. A few skirmish maps don't qualify in my book.

But wait! What's this???

*checks wallet*

Hmm, all my money is still in it.

Guess they get to call it whatever they want and if I get some fun out of it, great for me! If they eventually convince me that the game is worth paying for the time I've spent in it, then good for them, and I'll reward them for their efforts. If they don't, then they'll need to work a bit harder.

The basic standard I use is a dollar an hour minimum. If a game can deliver that in fun/$, then it's worth it. There's fun to be had here if you don't spend too much time crying about the fun you could have if only there was one more thing in it.

Wait, so "Open Beta" no longer means beta and means "Finalized Release"?

*mind blown*
