I recommend the one with six lasers, doesn't use any ammo, small or medium lasers fit great, and you can even mix and match lasers for a big punch (at high heat) and some smaller lasers for sustained DPS to finish someone off or to spam at another light. I'd use 6 small lasers on it, a nice big engine (XL preferred, 300XL is the top option) and as many heatsinks as you can muster.

Don't forget to max out the armor!

The de facto standard before DHS (Double Heat Sinks) was the Jenner-F with 6 small lasers.

Now?

Jenner-D

2x Med. Pulse
2x SSRM2 (+ 3 tons ammo)
300XL
FF
Endo
DHS

The F is still viable with 2x Med. Pulse and 3x small, but depending on how much trouble you're having with hit detection and leading targets ... the dual SSRM2s are pretty awesome at the moment. Mind you, these are the end goals; you have to work toward them and upgrade as you go.

I like my D variant with the missile slots. I usually run them with two SRM4s to shred the rear armor of larger mechs or two SSRM2s to hunt other lights.

Equipment hints are:
  • Get Endo-Steel. It's cheap and saves you 1.75 tons. Helps a lot on a Jenner.
  • Double Heat Sinks when you can. They are currently bugged, but will be fixed next tuesday. They will help manage heat a lot and you can use fewer of them to save weight.
  • Get an XL engine (very expensive). They cut your weight down a lot, but make you vulnerable to getting cored through the torso. An XL 275 is good enough for me. You really don't need the speed of an XL 300 even if it's fun and the XL 275 gives you two heat sink slots in the engine that don't take up crit space.

Here is my current build:

JR7-D

Upgrades
Endo-Steel
Double Heat Sinks

Weapons
x2 Small Laser
x2 Medium Laser
x2 SSRM (one ton ammo)

Other
12 Heat Sinks
x1 Jump Jet (I'll probably drop this)
Standard 245 Engine (almost done saving up for the XL 275)
176 Points of Armor

ok sounds like the consensus here is D. That it used to be F but now D is the way to go? Appreciate the advice fellas.

Depends one what you like!

I'll probably get the F once I save up my C-Bills for it. Plus I want to max out my Jenner "Pilot Lab" upgrades so I have to get at least 3 variants anyway.

I'd say both the D and F are viable, but personally I prefer the F. You can fit 6 Small Lasers on it and they really pack a punch. I often get kills on pilots not paying attention while I'm laying the heat on their backs.

I think the F is still the way to go due to the ammo costs of the streak missiles. I guess the D might do a little more damage with them, but I always used the F myself. I think the big advantage to the streaks right now is that they always target center torso, but they are going to fix that soon. There are some huge benefits to the F, one being it will always be welcome in your garage in the future due to its ability to grind cbills (spotting bonuses as a scout, excellent damage and no ammo costs) So if you ever need Cbills to run bigger mechs you can always fall back on it.
Also, people still fear the F, don't let them tell you otherwise. The D is just the flavor of the month right now due to streaks, but streak targeting will change. Eventually they will nerf it and the streakapult. And streaks are soooo dang expensive...
F is the safe bet, and good for the long game

Its simple, do you like lasers or missles more? If laser go F, if missle go D.

Its the only way to level jenner to master level right now if you dont have the founders jenner so I would say thats worth it to some people. Me being one of them. To the original poster I will say that even though you have the money to buy the jenner, if you dont have money yet for the xl300 engine I dont see the point.

F when netcode is good for lasers, D if it is bad so you have 2 ssrm2s. Right now, the D is king vs other lights.

Interesting ... well it is my first mech so i do want to be able to make good $$ off it. Maybe i should go with the F then instead....

Obviously, since streaks are worth their weight in gold if ammo costs are any indication. For money making lasers are always better than missles.

Either or will be perfectly viable.

the point is in gaining the exp to level out the jenner; going to have to grind a week for an XL - but buy and F now ( its cheapest ) and you'll be 1/3 done to elite.

As of the last patch, they combined the founder's and the D in the mech efficiencies tree - founders with Jenners have a single "Jenner-D(F)". You have to play all 3 (D,F,K) now to master regardless if you're a founder or not.

For profit, go with the F, don't have to worry about rearm. Standard Engines are much cheaper at the moment, but if you can convert to Endo and Double heat sinks, should be able to get the heat efficient enough to be effective, with 6 small lasers.

Best all around Jenner is actually the D, can go with missiles if you want or Lasers.
