Hoping to see matchmaking based on either company cost (C$) or total / average / median tonnage to shove the assault companies into one pool, the balanced companies into another, and the mk.2 Devastators in with the Clan omnis where they belong.

Well, i think it isn't the problem , that heavy or assault mechs are always the better choice.
at an open Field maybe your grounded with a ligth or medium against the heavier classes, but if you had the chance to overthrow with tactics or a lancemates. in this moment is a good and fast recon and narc Mech my first and only choice. Let them be bigger or not after a few Waves of LRM and ELRM, they will fall in pieces ^^.
just a game of Luck and Fail + Skill .

Uhgn....
I just wish there were some gomes on the servers that wernt ALL assault mechs..... I like ot play smaller,,,, But it be fun to play a game of speed and manuvers vs one shot killa's and slow poke 80+ tonners.....

Yo all, new to the site, and greatly looking forward to the game. I do miss the days of the board game using custom painted cast mech's. Anyhow getting into this subject, always have and always will be a heavy mech guy. My all time favorite has been the MAD-3 Marauder along with the MAD-5D variant, I can only hope they bring this battlemech into the game.

MAD-3D - The 3D Marauder is a modification of the 'Mech that removes its ammunition dependency. In order to do this, the 3D removes the Autocannon/5 and replaces it with a Large Laser. The saved weight is used to add four heat sinks to the 'Mech to handle the added heat burden from the Large Laser.[8] BV (1.0) = 1,136,[9] BV (2.0) = 1,470[10
  • MAD-5D - The 5D Marauder is an upgrade of the 3D model. The 'Mech's engine has been upgraded to an XL Engine to save weight, and the entire weapons payload has been stripped out and upgraded. The 5Ds primary weapons are two ER PPCs, which increase the PPCs range. The Large Laser has been replaced with a Large Pulse Laser, and the Medium Lasers have been replaced with two Medium Pulse Lasers. A Streak SRM-2 launcher has also been added to the 'Mech for more close range protection. It is protected by fourteen tons of armor. The 5D has a jumping capability of up to 120 meters.[17] BV (1.0) = 1,504,[9] BV (2.0) = 1,787[18]
Having good armor and advanced mobility with the jump jets greatly increases this BM effectiveness in the battlefield. The ability to perform "Death from above" or fast LoS escapes using the jump jets appeals greatly to me. I'm not sure if physical attacks will be a part of the game, but having two large weapon pods at the end of each arm would make excellent clubs for up close and nasty fighting. Besides all this, being painted in a red/black/grey camo pattern making it the sexiest BM on the battleground. ^_^

in previous games I have always worked through the weight classes, i find a mech I like and stick with it until i need something better usually due to being badly outgunned., I have taken down atlas and dahisi with 50 ton mechs before, that said I usually did end up in assault Mechs due to firepower and durability.
If i find a medium Mech i like i could stick with it long term so long as i do not frequently find myself outnumbered by heavy and assult Mechs but I expect to end up in a heavy or assault but definitely not the atlas or awesome

I think tat with the multiplayer nature of the game itself, they will have to do something about it, so finding a good mech is always prefferable.
