Ammo refills on the field? There's always the J-27, but I wouldn't like to hang around that bomb on tracks for any time during a heated battle.
Seriously, if any enemy sess you doing a field refill, it's target the medic ammo transport first.

Also, calling in a field refill should only be possible within a certain distance to the comander, otherwise you could send that bomb ammo to your enemy and induce strategically placed ammo explosions. With all the air strikes, artillery support and accidental orbital bombartments available we don't need another way to deliver more explosives to the enemy.

I think reloading should take 30 seconds when done with a vehicle or other outside help and longer (e.g. >= 45 sec) when rearming without help, e.g. from airdropped stashes.

Air drops of stealable, explodable ammo refills has it's charm.

Loading would require... Knealing besides such an explosive for 30 seconds? That would be pretty cool I think.

And just how would you go about loading said ammo refills into your mech?

::blinks:: Wait, kneeling before the dropped "Care Package" magically places the ammo in your bins?

Umm, I don't think that would be pretty cool. i think it would be pretty immersion breaking though.

With all that, I'll just chime in and say that infield repairs are a no-go, for the reasons that wwiiogre has stated. It just takes too long to complete any type of repairs.

Ammo reloads? Sure if, and when, mobile field bases go on line sure. IF you want to stand in front of the base and wait for the forklifts and waldos to restock your ammo, not a problem. If you want to just stop by the base and have all your ammo magically replenished . . nope. Not a good idea.

Because it's a sim game, not a casual FPS. There's no logical reason for a mech to magically recover from the damage it receives, BT mech have no autorepairing capabilities.

As for ammo reloads, ammo shortages is one of the key elements of balancing ammo-based weapons, with in-field reloadings of any kind this balance will be skewed. Conserving your ammo and having some kind of energy-based backup weapon must be a points to consider for a ballistic- or missile-oriented mech. Besides, MWO matches will be rather short(as far as I remember, the whole match is supposed to be 10 to 15 minutes long), so it's not like "empty" player will have to wander the battlefield aimlessly for half an hour.

I'm not interested in making programmers animate belt feeds for every Mech and weapon allocation. Besides I'll be in the cockpit I won't have to see anything but a estimated completion timer counting down while munitions is loaded.

The work crew fitting cables so my Catapult can start reloading it's stock of LRM's can be invisible. Because I won't be able to see them anyway.

And neither am I, as that would impede the ability of lower end systems to run the game, thus decreasing the amount of people that can play.

However, I also don't want to see a mech run up to a mobile field base, tap it with it's toe and miraculously have all it's ammo refilled either.

No, but the enemy scout that slipped past your front line and is in a good firing position over your Forward Supply Depot will be able to see them...

If in-mission rearming is permitted, I think it should only be at a 'forward base' which is close to your team's starting edge, potentially requiring you to fall back and spend time travelling both TO the ammo dump and BACK to the fight after being resupplied.

...oh, and if you happened to hot drop onto the map, and have no existing territory held (say an initial planetary raid/assault), guess you don't get reloaded...
