I'm starting to notice some AFK players using idle bots. Typically they just stand at spawn and shoot a weapon every 10 or so seconds, sometimes with torso movement.

Just saw one named [REDACTED] he was definite bot as he continued to shoot even when I stood my Jenner in his line of fire, and he completely ignored enemy mechs that shot him to bits (while continuing to fire his Raven's large laser into the ground).

Well it had to happen because the dev are patching in a mech kick out of match for idle mech in the next patch.

It doesn't take long for botters to appear in games; taking advantage of whatever easy way they can make money. This game rewards you for being in matches even if you don't do anything; thus a bot for this game is braindead simple.
1) Queue up.
2) Run into wall or fire weapons to avoid the idle boot trigger.
3) Leave match and start over.
4) Profit.

Need Piranha to ban them.

Idle/AFK
  • Players that fail to provide any input will be kicked from a match Although it does not prevent a macro player from simply putting in inputs, it forces them to LOOK like a bot.
Abusing this system is considered a violation of the TOS/COC.

Yeah its disappointing but a evil of every multi player PC game I have ever played worth cheating in. Diablo 3 is hilarious, because you can make real money within the gui of the game. The bots there own the economy and have such complex scripts they can basically play better than most players.

Heh.

If enough people report them, they can analyze the data from that player and determine if they were botting or not, even after the match is over.

And since this is Beta and they need to review game info all the time to identify issues... they're already collecting lots of information and recording every game as data. There's a good chance that the simplistic behavior from the current bots can be easily found out later just by running a small program that would analyze this data, so anyone botting right now might just wake up a month from now and realize they've been banned and lost everything (mechs, bills, MC all gone) because they were so lazy they couldn't even be bothered to play a video game.

Welcome to the information age.

Guild Wars 2 is already plagued with them too. There are PACKS of them running laps around many mob heavy camps. They run around in a perfect line on the same track of ground around the area, killing everything in sight, day and night. We(Forum users) keep telling ArenaNet to ban these accounts because they are doing an unimaginable amount of revenue damage. But they are doing almost nothing about it. When their revenue goes to the toilet they can't act surprised or unwarned. These bots are probably making 100g per day and they sell it by undercutting the cash shop; shamelessly stealing revenue from the developers that need it to continue the game. They are like leeches sucking your blood; too many of them and you will die of blood loss. On this game they will grind up accounts then sell them. Why pay for MC when you could pay far less for an account with 100k MC already on it? This will be an issue soon plaguing this game if they don't ban botters.

Zergling... you may want to check out this thread... -> Name and Shame Threads

Edit out the players name since naming them violates the CoC/ToU here and then simply submit a ticket to support@mwomercs.com about the issue...

Isnt it ironic that you're complaining about people violating the rules, when you violated one (name and shame) yourself?

Silliness. Here are the options available to new players:

1. Buy MCs and jump straight into a customizable mech.
2. Grind out 10mil or so Cbills using the Trial mechs, 200 or so games, playing as well as they can.
3. Grind out the 10mil or so Cbills by playing poorly and basically suicide rushing to get in as many games as possible.
4. Grind out the 10mil or so Cbills by using a Bot program to get the credits while the player sleeps at night or is at school/work.

Cost/Reward of each choice:
1. Pay real money - get the most choices as quickly as possible.
2. Free, and playing "correctly" - but is the slowest method and most of which is done in a "not fun" trial mech.
3. Free, and not against the rules even if it isn't the "honorable" way to play. Moderate speed but still have to go through the motions for a couple weeks.
4. Free, Against the rules but requires very little time investment. If your "free" account is caught and banned - you can still just create a new free account and try again. Once you have enough credits to buy a couple mechs and a couple XL engines, you no longer have to risk the account by using the Bot.

The game design actually encourages the use of a Bot. Good luck stopping people from using them without changing the underlying game design.

One simple way of spotting a botter is that they will almost always powerdown/afk at the EXACT coordinates between 4 sectors. E6E5F6F5 being the default, but G-H 3-5 have been seen as well.
