I have played both the Awesome and the Raven trial mechs and have earned enough to buy a Raven and a Jenner. I sold the Jenner and bought another Raven and have decided to specialize in Ravens while I build up the wallet.

I have always loved the Awesome in its stock trial config as a long range fire support mech and do well with it. It is not a brawler, but can deal damage and kill if you use its range as a defense. I make sure that I never get close to the fight but strike from a distance.

But anyway...

Clearly with so many new players in the game, the more experienced team oftens wins and it is a stomp. This isn't a game mechanic flaw, it is just a normal thing when a new population of players comes into a gaming environment that has a steep learning curve that is already populated by vets. Out of all the matches I have played since open beta, I have come across only 4 maybe 5 matches where there were premades. My team lost.

I always say hello when the game starts and let everyone know what I will be doing and try to give some pointers or feedback but I will tell you, 90% of the time, no one even says hello, or there is the one person that always says hello then nothing else. Some people drop but rarely, I have dropped several times. More than in closed beta. Either I get a crash to desktop or a black screen.

Most of the time two things happen. Either a few follow me because I guess I actually said something in chat, or, I just attach myself to whatever blob might form.

I focus on staying alive, spotting, and dealing damage in that order and capping if the opportunity is there. I do not focus on kills at all, never have, but I am in the top 3-4 damage dealers. All in all, my PUG teams have lost more than won.

I think a lot of people get frustrated because this is not a run and gun FPS and not every mech is an assault. You really have to be careful and most just want to charge in and fight. The game is a lot more complicated than that, but to me this is the fun part. If it was obvious and straight forward, I would be bored in about 5 minutes which is one reason I gave up Battlefield/COD first person shooters ages ago.

Play smarter than your enemy, let the enemy come to you on your terms, live long so you can earn more, use your team mates - even if you just use them for cover while you run!
