Ok, so before people start jumping in with shouts about community/faction warfare let me preface this by saying that yes, I know we are eventually going to get community warfare, but what I'm aiming for here is something slightly different.

As a bit of background I used to run (with the help of several friends) an online campaign for Red Orchestra called EFC (Eastern Front Campaign). The idea was that you would have two teams (in this case the Germans & the Russians) fighting over several months on a battle map set up between Berlin & Moscow.

The campaign featured player-run armies with full command structures, an evolving battle map that would change after each battle, full commander control over team class/weapon/vehicle load-outs (that was a real pain in the arse to admin each week!), 2 x 3-hour battles each week, etc.

I was thinking that this format could work quite well in MWO as an unofficial campaign system while we wait for the official system to begin, and also as a way to let the community fight specific campaigns such as the battle of Tukayyid (clan tech permitting of course) or other notable planetary campaigns that people would like to try out.

Obviously the format would need to be cut back and changed a bit to fit around MWO, but I do think it can be made to work.

I've got all of my old code knocking around so I don't see any immediate problems in getting a campaign started, but before I go any further I'd like to see if there's any interest.

If there's enough interest then I'll do some more work on the idea and start getting everything ready.

Obviously anyone who's interested in helping out can PM me. I'm also open to ideas to help improve the overall campaign concept.

i'd love a SP campaign, but of course, this game's designed to be directed towards the MP community, and i'll gladly accept that.

oh wait thats right, single player is just a "gimmick" these days... *eyeroll*

edit: and now that i'm not completely hurr durr'in, i can see what you mean by campaign!

while that does look cool, iiiiiiit would take a looooot of effort and a loooot of interested people, but you know, anything can happen *shrug*

Yeah, you're right that it takes a lot of effort - but the way MWO's set up should hopefully make it easier to admin - so long as I don't have to learn how to edit unreal maps all over again to change team load-outs every week it's all good ;)
